Audio-gd DI24/DI24HE

I noticed the output clock on the DI-24 as well as on the DI-20; what exactly is it for? I seem to have understood that if I have a master clock with two outputs for example, it must be connected to the 10 MHz input of the DAC and the DI -24 or 20 or am I wrong?

The clock output on the DI20(HE) is not 10 MHz but a so called word clock output, for which the frequency of the clock signal depends on the resolution of the played file. Devices that can accept this are usually pro gear.

Thanks so much for the clarification

My setup is highly optimized: grounding boxes, fancy cords, furutech ac accessries, isolation transfos, sw-8 switch, Concentus digital cables, and so on. My dac redoes timing from scratch, like most Audio-gd dacs. Bottom line: the improvement brought by the di24he after 675h is rather major. Staging, detail retrieval, bass, liveliness. All improved. It's no joke.

Hi,

I've an Audio-GD - R8 MK2 and it's better add the new DI-24HE or get the new DAC R8HE mk3 ?

Thanks
Or get a used DI20HE. I love this one on both my dacs: R1N/R8H2.

To be honest I assume R8M2 is the sweetspot you need R7H3 to get a worthy upgrade.

With my current R8MK2 plus DI24HE worth it upgrade in sound quality?
If DI24HE is 10% improvement over DI20HE I would say. Your dac will get a over a class up with no doubt!

If you asked me to get R8H2 or DI20/24HE and R8M2 I would choose the latter.

Without a doubt! - save the money for R7/HE7 if you want further upgrade that is worth the money noticeably.

I have R1N/DI20HE and like it as much as R8H2. Not saying you will get the exact same sound but a noticeably upgrade just adding the 24HE.

Thanks for the advice, but R7/HE is out of my target. Just to add more information I've the Pre Amp Vacuum HE1 SE and can't use ACSS inputs. I think I'll put the trigger for DI-24HE with R8 MKII
The improvement on R1N is drastic. Not kidding. I would assume you would feel like it is buying a higher grade dac…

With time in the break-in periode you will notice it improves. But the real noticeable improvement is when you confirm everything it does right….that is when it comes back in the system after being disconnected for 4months.

Have it connected for a year and disconnect it for a while. It is like discovering all it’s “secrets”.

This is the fun part of this hobby = patience

I am only talking on DI20HE as I don’t know the sound of 24HE…yet!

Edit: My R8H2 was breaked in together with DI20HE. You might already hear everything I am talking about as you know how you dac sounds.

Unless you can find a used Di20He, I think the Di24He will get you the best performance to cost ratio upgrade to the existing system. Time to look for a good short IIS cable to connect the two.
