Audeze LCD i4 TOTL In-Ear Monitor Discussion

@kubig123, where do you get those silicone sleeves.

How do folks carry the i4 for traveling, do you use the stock case it seems kind of big, if not, what other cases do you use to keep the i4 protected? Thanks.

Personally I don't find the stock case very practical because you have to take off the ear locks or hooks every time you put the LCDi4s in it. Most people I've seen do the Pelican 1060 with pick-a-foam combo (https://www.head-fi.org/threads/audeze-lcd-i4-totl-in-ear-monitor-discussion.850292/page-72). I do that combo as well.

Hi,
I found it on amazon.

To carry most of my earphones I found some plastic containers with interlocking lids, I used the same containers to store by cables too.

How’s it compare with your old U12?

Note : Just to clarify I had the original U12 before the rift with ADEL, so it was with ADEL modules. I know the after ADEL U12 is a tad different.

For starter - performance notwithstanding - their signature is different. The U12 was the first IEM I owned that was warm *and* airy with a great soundstage, with smooth treble (some will say recessed or subdued but I never felt that way, although it's true it had way less sparkle than my S-EM9 it was coherent with the overall signature. So the i4 is much more lively than the U12, extends much more down low (those sub bass...) and way more up high. U12 is darker (but not closed sounding) and is a relaxed listen, the i4 a more neutral yet exciting one. Both are engaging in a different way. The i4 is also more transparent, way more so than any other headphone or IEM I have owned including S-EM9. Last but not least, it's significantly faster. Overall this explains better PRaT for the i4 participating to an exciting listen.

Thanks for the thoughts 7onyMustDive.

Thanks Kubig123 for the links, is that a 4.4 connector that you have? So you are using a Sony 1A or 1Z?

I’m actually using the ibasso dx200, personally I think is the best player for the i4. Slightly more powerful than the Wm1z, it give more body to the sound and has a wider soundstage.

How do you use the stock case? I feel it's insanely impractical because it requires you to take off the earhooks/locks to fit in and put it them back on when using it. Do you not use the ear hooks or locks?

How much sound do they leak? Would it be possible to listen in bed without waking up the wife?
Not that much, you should be safe.

Hmmm, I beg to differ even to lower volumes it leaks enough to be noticeable in a very quiet environment and depending what genre you're listening to or how sensitive your other half is... I can tell from living with someone who has deep sleep it can bug them and wake them up... and I am not listening to hard rock at high volume, even jazz at moderate level will leak some sound...

At the office on the other hand, no problem...

So my answer would be definitely not unfortunately, thus my ordering the VE8 :p
I also consider the i4 to be somewhat fragile by design... rolling on the side while falling asleep could not be that good for them...
