Thanks, ChaseM, will give it a shot and report back.

A quick search on head fi yielded some sources reviewing the iphone 6 dac favorably
https://www.head-fi.org/f/threads/f...scussion-thread.595683/page-753#post-11970203

Here's the 6s review: http://www.kenrockwell.com/apple/iphone-6s-plus-audio-quality.htm
tl;dr: flawless dac and ruler flat frequency response driving 32 ohm headphones

From this it would appear improvements would not be audible but I haven't done a a/b/x test for this kind of thing, so I'll give it a try.

Have you or anyone tried any other portable amps with the LCD-4?

Your going to have a hard time finding portables that do a good job with the LCD-4. They're high impedance power hungry cans.
ifi idsd works v well, also ak kann

Agree. I've written to both ifi and fiio for a more powerful (slimmer) amp only option and got a nice email from both acknowledging the suggestion. We'll see.

As a former owner of the Milo (and now Headtrip) and current owner of LCD-4 and HE-1k v1&2, I prefer the LCD-4. I'm a sucker for their lush yet impactful sound. Both headphones sound great with the Milo though. The V2 are my second fave. This opinion remains the same with my Wells Audio Headtrip.

They both have their strength and no obvious flaws, just different presentation of music. LCD-4 have a fuller, smoother and more forgiving sound than the HE1000 v2. He1000 v2 have a bit better instrument separation, is more resolving and have a more open sound. I like both very much, so let me put it like this. If it’s going to be your only top headphone and you like me listening not only to audiophile records, I would go for LCD-4 because it’s make me want to listen to also music that is not perfectly recorded but still is as good sounding as the HE1000 v2 on most audiophile records, just different presentation. If you mostly listing to well record classical music HE1000 v2 may suite you better.

You never know. Someone might recommend a pair of ATH-M50X over a flagship these days. XD

I guess I really have to listen to lcd4.

My request is susvara versus lcd4. There is 2000 bucks on the table as well, but let's put those chips away and go head to head...
