I can see your point in the different ranges of pricing for Hifiman but I still don't think that the HE-1000 at $3k is a good deal. For the sake of your pricing scale some of those models Hifiman doesn't make anymore. Look at the price jump from the HE-500 to the HE-560 though.
Right, the HE500 was 699$ and the HE560 is 899$.
But strictly speaking, the HE560 was supposed to be a stepping stone between the HE500 and HE6.
The true HE500 replacement was supposed to be the 400i at 499$ [while the naming convention suggests otherwise, yes.]
Then you have the HE400 replacement, the 400S, at 100$ less.
The HEK at 2999$ is not a good deal per say, but to my ears personally, it sounds 'better' than anything else out there. Would I be happier if it were 1999$? Of course!
Then there's the HE-Ed.X which will be 1799$ and the closed back portable at 399$, I think. Most recently there was the cheapest ever open back planar HE400S at 299$.
So in my eyes, the HE1000 was more of a disruption to HFM's consciously priced headphone model. Lots of R&D was necessary [well, it is the largest as well as first ever nano grade diaphragm] and as things get more efficient, price will be dropping down [HE-X].
Also, many people still consider HE-6 to be the best, which is 1299$. Its successor will be similarly priced and if there's ever the rumored electrostatic headphone, I imagine to be similarly priced as well, though we may see a spike once in a while to recoup some of the R&D.
At least that's what I think. Feel free to disagree
