Audeze LCD-4

I wouldn't really use this on the go, just didn't have an alternative. Nice to know that I could and it'd sound good if the need arose though.

Yeah.... thats what I figured. Most people probably wouldn't lug around their LCD's for actual portable use, maybe portable in the home like listening on the toilet.

I can confirm in balanced mode, the LCD-4s sound just great from my AK240SS. But they kick it up several notches with my main rig (Hugo TT --> GS-X Mk2 in balanced mode).

As these are on loan I can neither confirm nor deny the possibility that listening was done on the thinking chair.

Is that the ebony wood cups?  I really like the look of it!

Yes, it is. Dealer here informed they cannot ship the cocobolo (? sp) outside of the US.

I'd like to hear more from people that have both the he1000 and the lcd4 in terms of how complementary they are to each other. Still debating if I should get this or just another pair of he1000 for my workplace. I love them that much. Thanks in advance gents for further thoughts and comparisons.

I have decided to keep my LCD-4. I have King on order and trying to decide between between Chord Hugo and Yggy. When used as a DAC how well does Hugo TT compare to Chord Hugo? Chord Hugo gives that extra option of being portable in-door amp.

I'm a big fan of the Hugo, but the TT brings things to a whole new level. Truly an endgame DAC (and the headphone amplifier is very, very good). Both my Hugo TT and LCD-4 reviews are in and will be published on Headphone.Guru in the next few weeks.

  Yeah, check out post #1646

Read it and thoroughly enjoyed/appreciated his feedback . Would like to see more people chime in that has both with extended sessions.  I am leaning toward the LCD-4 as it might be silly to have 2 of the same TOTL headphone in the dynamic game especially since I got my eyes on the STAX game next.  Thanks.

Had a chance to try a brand new LCD-4 just unboxed and driven from a chord Mojo. Honestly the Mojo volume balls needed to be nearly on white (top end of volume spectrum) for it to be sufficiently loud for me. I instantly heard and felt the buzzing from songs, it was not merely physical but affected the sound of the song, very disturbing.

A product manager then told me to compare it to the Final Audio Sonorous X, which is even more expensive than the LCD-4, and had an insanely thick, lush, alluring mid-range. So superior that it was hard to go back to the LCD-4 in direct comparison. I only auditioned the 4 very briefly, it was competent in everything but no singular area jumped out as being particularly outstanding, maybe the Mojo is simply not bringing out its true potential. I also had a 30 seconds listen from a Hugo TT but it was with an unfamiliar song, it did sound better though I guess. We changed the stock blue SE cable to an ALO Reference 16 cable and it managed to bring vocals a bit closer like what I experienced from my audition of the X some time before.

The ebony was beautiful and much more attractive than all the previous wood used on the 2 and 3. I also liked the chrome grill as it made it look more high-end. Price was staggering and seems it is very back ordered so won't be getting it anytime soon.

The Chord Mojo does not have anywhere near the power required to drive the LCD-4. There is no way you could possibly hear what these headphones are capable of. By comparison the Sonorous X is an easy to drive dynamic. The Hugo TT is a great DAC and headphone amp for some cans but, not a planar like the LCD-4. You need at lest a good 4000 milliwatts.

I don't think the Mojo is bringing out anything like it's potential, but it sounded really good here nevertheless and I wasn't using it particularly close to max volume (no idea how loud the other guy was listening, perhaps it was classical with a wider dynamic range or he likes it super loud). I don't think anyone would contend it was optimal though.
