Audeze - Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (1-20-2025: Update On Stolen Maxwells)

Did Audeze ever respond about the left ear cup volume issue? They were so quick to respond to the youtuber that had a glue issue with the plastic and metal parts separating.
nope.
they will just leave it most likely. sad really.
I returned a pair because of it, my second unit is slightly better

I think it might be to do with the phasing issue and inconsistent freq response tests that at least 2 reviewers have measured (including rtings)

Sad to hear and it seems to be a very common issue even on reddit.

looks like they have already tested it themselves here's a graph for you!
https://twitter.com/wickedcushions/status/1641543601032433675 (green is WC and blue is og)

I got my Wicked Cushions last night, and I'd say this graph seems accurate. It's not a big change by any means, but it is noticeable. That little bump from 2k-5k is right at the higher midrange (and crosses over into the "presence" range a bit), so vocals and certain instruments sound noticeably more forward, female vocals especially. For anyone who finds the Maxwell slightly dull, this is probably a good thing, it adds a little more forwardness and excitement to the sound, but it could potentially come across as more harsh to some ears. There's definitely an extra edge that's bordering on a little harshness in some recordings for me.

Also, the Wicked Cushions being thicker meant going up a notch on the headband for me, so if you have a perfect fit now you might find that a step down.

Is it normal that the Xbox version sounds very compressed on PS5?
This was discussed much earlier in the thread but I guess this would confirm it alongside the reddit post.

They did say on here(quoted posts below) and in the Maxwell FAQ on their website that the Xbox version won't necessarily work at 100% on the PlayStation, even if it is still usable via switching to PC mode.
Ity will work in the same way Penrose X works on PS5. However as stated a few posts ago, PS version will be tuned to work more efficiently on PS5, meaning better volume levels, leading to less distortion, better tuning, etc.

That entirely depends on your target console/system. Mobius has waves NX headtracking with 7.1 surroundwhich adds an extra level of immersion for movies, though it's focused on PC use.

Maxwell is an improvement across the board in most regards to the Penrose, and if on Xbox you can take advantage of included Dolby Atmos license, which really helps for movie watching on Xbox.

On PS5, Penrose and Maxwell can both utilize Tempest 3D audio, which is also beneficial for movie watching.

So really it's entirely dependent on platform.

That is correct, assuming you already purchased a Dolby Atmos license which is not included with PS5 version.

From the FAQ:

Based on what has been mentioned in the EQ, I would guess that if anything, the big difference of using the Xbox variant on PS5 will have more to do with its maximum volume output and perhaps its noise floor in practice. But we may just have to wait and see during reviews.

Thanks for this since I game on PC and PS5 I better wait for the PS5 version to be available in my region.

I tested the Penrose X on a a PS5 and there is no audio compression that I can detect. Could it have something to do with Audeze now using bluetooth on the dongle which is not 100% optimized for the PS5?

Nice! I am definitely interested in trying out a pads that is suppose to be softer, hopefully provide better seal for glass wearers.

Dekoni most likely will have their own replacement pads as well (and may well be lighter than the WC pads), does anyone have any news?

Finally got around to updating to the newest FW this weekend, must have taken 5 tries to get the Headset to update, multiple power cycles and resetting the Audeze HQ software 3 times.

Also, not sure if it's just me, but the USB-C connection on the headset itself is so temperamental that even a fly farting near it would cause a connection issue it feels like? This is using the provided cables as well, nothing 3rd party.
