ATH-W1000X Thread!

You asked about the W5000 cups too. Sorry I can't help.
But can I ask what kind of mod are planning? Would be interested to know.

Yeah I did, I'm assuming the cup volumes are the same so I'm asking here too. I have a Beyer DT770 Premium that I have installed some W5000 drivers in and would like to have the same sound as an actual W5000. They sound good as is but I think the bass response is different because the Beyer cups have more inner volume.

Wow that's pretty cool. Very interesting, someone in the T1 thread was adding T1 drivers to the DT770.

The circumference of the W5000 cup is slightly larger than the W1000X. The W5000 pads fit noticeably looser on the W1000X. The W1000X cups seem deeper than the W5000 cups. The location of the bass ports of the two headphones are different in design too. If you want I can post comparison pics of the two woodcups and the T1 (they might the same or similar size to the DT770) in the W5000 thread. The circumference of the W5000 cup is larger than the T1 as a guide. The AT drivers are 53mm whereas the T1 is 45mm. Not sure about the DT770.

Will try to get some general measurements  - any you're particularly interested in?

Gonna try and find a moment today or tomorrow, before or after last minute xmas shopping to get these up

Thanks for the info! The T1 and 770 cups are the same shape, but I don't think the T1 drivers will be as good in a closed cup. I'll look into the T1 thread and find that build to watch it. I wonder why he didn't use T5p drivers instead?

The only thing I really would like to know is he different the internal volumes differ, how close the backs of the drivers are to the cups and if there are any dampening materials in the cups.

Thanks!

I believe that they desired higher impedance drivers. Very interesting project nevertheless.

Anyone know where leather ear cups like those for the L3000's can still be bought? I found some info on the classifieds about audiocubes.com, but they don't seem to stock them anymore. I have a pair of these on the way and I am pretty confident I will want to upgrade the pleather as quickly as possible.

Thanks in advance! I'm also open to buying them here but I can't post in the classifieds yet.

Ah right I thought you were looking for the actual L3000 cups (where the driver is housed)
I've not tried the L3000 pads, but I do have the W5000 pads on the w1000x which I find very comfortable.

Hi everyone

I  have a home studio, with Focal CMS 65, Ableton Push, Focusrite Forte and CME UF80 Midi Keyboard with 88 keys. I use Ableton 9 and Komplete 9 with some of the best Piano Plugins..
I recently decided studing music and Piano and need to play during night with a great headphones.
I have my headphones since Crystal Waters - Pure love, Sennheiser HD540 Reference II.
Since last weeks i was reading to understand what is the best studio headphones and saw Audio technica ATH-M50x have a great feedback however Audio-Technica have other two excellent headphones too. They have ATH W1000X and MSR7, however this last two have best performance when connected to an Amp.
At this moment i´m so confused to decided what´s the best option to get the best sound with Kontakt Piano plugins :frowning2:
Is it possible/necessary connect Focusrite Forte to an Amp like AT-HA22Tube or other one?
Thanks for your feedback..

Yeah, you can connect an like the Focusrite Forte HA22Tube to a headphone with analog inputs.  You use the line out of the Focusrite.  But aren't you already using the line out to connect to your Focal speakers?

Also, the Focusrite has a headphone out, doesn't it?  Is it a bad one?

Regarding the M50 vs W1000X, I have both.  The M50 is a good headphone, but W1000X is in another league sound-wise.

Hi

First of all many thanks for your fast reply..

Yes, i have Line out R & L connected to  2 Focal CMS65.
A also have my sennheiser HD540 RII connected to Forte Headphones connection. The quality sound has perfect sound..
Here the headphone Specs:
Frequency Response20Hz-20kHz +/- 0.1 dB
SNR (A-weighted)-116 dB
THD+N

<0.0008% (-1dBFS input 1kHz, 20Hz/22kHz bandpass filter, 10k load)
Maximum Output into 10k+9 dBu (+7dBV)
Maximum Power into 150R30 mW
Maximum Power into 32R27 mW
Output Impedance< 8 Ohms
Load Impedance > 24 Ohms
I know W1000X is another league when compared to M50, my doubt is to know if W1000x or MSR7 will works perfect with Forte.
I like the sound from Sennheiser HD540 but i would love to have better.. probably with W1000x or MSR7 will be other LEAGUE.
Unfortantly i will buy W1000X or MSR7 from ebay probably japan and not have "time" to test both, i will to decided one of both and simply pray it works very fine however at this time would prefer to have some feedback from you :)
Thanks
