ATH-W1000X Thread!

Not when the previous owner put them on there.
Anyway I am using these plugged directly into my motherboard audio output (Realtek ALC898) and they sound ok I guess. The bass is pretty boomy and overshadows a lot of the finer/delicate/detailed quiet highs I really like (if that makes sense)
I just need a good amp to drive it, then I can give a good review.
I have heard this pair of phones is rather finicky with its amp pairing. What are some good ones out there? will probably get a SS amp/ other one so I can listen to electronic with them

The motherboard's on-board audio's high output impedance might be causing the W1000X's to have a bloated (louder, less detailed) bass.
The Schiit Magni headphone amplifier ($99+ tax/shipping) has a very low output impedance (>1-Ohm).
The O2 Objective 2 headphone amplifier ($130) also has a low output impedance.

Here is a nice Grado mini adapter cable,
7 inch 1/4" female to 1/8" male adapter ($14.95).

It's funny. Finally got a chance to listen to a pair. Actually blew me away:wink: having listened to many AT's, I think they got their order wrong. This should be considered a flagship of their range!!!!

WHY has this thread died! CMON GUYS it's  time for a REBIRTH!!!

also @Meduseld I would prefer teh w1000x for music over the 770 or the MMX 300, how ever the Beyers are going to be a touch better for gaming

also just got a lovely cable built for my w1000x!

Check it out! I'll have pics of the headphone soon

Kudos to cCasper for the nice build on this bad boi

Best woodies ever!, Sorry guys, just trying to keep this thread alive. Still the best "sounding" woody closed  phones around! Kinda curious what they sound like off of a real high end system. Sound great to me off of a mid or low ender!

I'm still enjoying my pair very much

. Personally I find the W5000 outdo them in detail and timbre, and therefore is more immersive, particularly with acoustic instruments. But the W1000X is a better all-rounder. Punchier bass too. Slightly less fatiguing as well.

I prefer the W1000X to the W5000 which I sold . My memory isn't spectacular but from what I can remember of the L3000 the W1000X is a better balanced headphone for me as well.

I can definitely understand people preferring the W1000X over the W5000. Sometimes I do too. You have a nice selection of amps. Can I ask which one you normally use with the W100X?

I mainly use the W1000X in my bedroom setup so for several years that was with a Meier Opera or a Mapltree HD100 but last year switched to a Violectric V200 and sold the Opera and HD100.
Source is a Rega Saturn cdp.

Some tubes amp should match well also, the W1000X being a little sharp sometime
V200 for SS is good too (warm amp)

My current amp is very transparent and I like the versatility that it brings. But I'm not ideologically opposed to tube amps either.
Even though I'm not in the market for an amp, I am always interested in finding out other peoples' experiences, particularly if they happen to have the same headphones as myself.

Music will and must always come first, but I'm not afraid to admit that the gear fascinates me too.

Just gave my friend's Grandioso a listen. Now saving hard for it (I'm just a cheap student so it'd give my financial a torture

Do anybody know what IEM sounds like the Grandioso? Bright, clear vocal while still having nice bass.
