I'm aware that the conversion from a cable to a 3.5mm plug has been done before, but I thought I'd throw up how mine turned out using the Schurter 4832.2300 plug. I was going to do a picture walkthrough, but I found that everything was simpler than expected.

Anyway, I opened the phones completely and put a cloth liner between the interior foam and metal mesh, and clipped and soldered the new plug in (or rather had my brother do it since I'm terrible with a soldering iron). All told, it took 2-3 hours and under $5 (about $2 for the plug and $3 for the fabric). I was hoping that the fabric would close the phones in a little, but I'm satisfied with the result I got.

It's amazing how well those 8mm plug casings fit in the hole for the cable. If I'd known how easy this was to do, I would have done it long before the cable got so stiff I had a hard time bending it. :p

Wow, it really does look awesome. Too bad my AD700 is gone or else I would try it.
