I am wondering how the ad700 or ad900 are for rock music. Ive already tried grados and they were too harsh for me. I also have the hd555, whick are ok but im looking for something more exciting. Thanks.

Instead of only considering AD700/900, you might also want to give A900 a try.

From what I remember of the AD700, it has a pretty well-rounded sound, somewhere between the HD280 and the SR60. When I listened to it, I was addicted to my SR60, but the AD700 appealed to me as well. It was a little more "airy" and sounded fuller, possibly due to the fact that it ate half your head compared to Grados.

I haven't tried 555s or 595s, but I would imagine that the AD700/900 is somewhere between that and Grado. At least, that's where I've always imagined them being.

If anyone disagrees, please do so.

The dip around 300hz that the A900 have could be an issue for the OP, but with a little mod all is better

Which Grados did you try?

I like my AD900s for rock, but then I also like my ES7s and SR60s for rock.
