I can get both of these at around $200 each. I am wondering which is going to give me the best results. I'm a big guy with a big noggin so it'd be nice if they fit me right. Right now I have some SR60s but they're nearly useless when in a noisy environment like a LAN party. My sources are my Zen Vision M and a Creative X-Fi Extreme Gamer Fatality sound card in my PC. I playback 320kbps .mp3's because of my Zen.

Help is appreciated.

DT-770/80's can be found on Ebay for $149, I would go with these for
comfort and excellent sound isolation. They also sound great!

I have both of these headphones, and i'd take the DT770 without a second thought and never look back.

The A900 has a very bright sound signature with a big dip in the lower mids, at about 300hz, which gives it a very odd, hollow sound.

Audio-Technica also uses insultingly cheap earpads on these. The absolute worst grade of pleather. The stickiest, sweatiest, peelingest pleather there is.

The vinyl peels off of the underlying terrycloth and you lose most of the bass in the process. The collar that holds the pad onto the flange of the earcup also tears off very easily.

So, they made these $180 headphones with earpads of inexcusably poor quality - earpads that belong on $10 headphones - and then it turns out that a replacement set of pads costs $35 + $16 to ship = $51 from audiocubes.

It's a travesty. I am not at all fond of my A900.

Buy both + amp for DT770pro. That is what I did and I am happy with my decision

Just so I don't make a new thread about it.

What widely-available amp would you recommend and from where?

Arietta synergies well with Beyer cans. But any headphone will sound great out of it. Meier-Audio

It's only $32 plus a few dollars shipping to get the much nicer A1000 pads from Bluetin.

Well I looked at the Cordo but it's rather pricey imo. I know that's a pretty good price for an amp but I'll wait on getting one. Also, the DT770 Pro 80 only has an 80 ohm impedence. Does that really require an amp? I can't imagine it needing one.

I've requested a price quote for A1000 pads, we'll see what they say.

Still, for that kind of money, beyerdynamic would sell you genuine leather pads. Not that you need them with dt770's.

OK, my quote from bluetin for A1000 pads, all inclusive, comes to 37.54. They better be MUCH better quality than A900 pads.

What kills me about the A900 pads is that they're the same grade of pleather you get from Koss - except with Koss the replacements would cost $5 shipped.

I had a friend bring them down from Singapore, and I'm using them with the A900. They are much better.
