When I started read this post lots of years ago something changed in my life.. And not just because I killed two sound cards (because I put the opamp in the wrong directions).. but because the new dimension of music listening.. Thanks Raymond555.
I bought always creative sound cards (except once: Asus Eone MKII Muses edition because the people told the Asus is better so I bought their best.. but it was flat and had less quality as my SB cards..).
Now I use Sound Blaster AE9Pe. I can't reach my ZXR card for experience (because the virus) so I can talk just about the AE9pe. I tried the Burson V6 vivid with this card: Bon Jovi had a strange voice as a little pig.. I removed it and I tried with V6 classic. It had better voice, the guitar was better as with my Asus MKII Muses edition (with the original amps), but still very poor. I didn't try the v5.. I'm thinking to buy it.. But I don't know which one : the v5 or the v5i.. Mostly because I can't imagine to this can be better as my actual opamps (see later).. I use Sparkos SS3602 and SS3601 in my ZXR at home. Here with the AE9Pe I used that Sparkos too. I liked them better as the other options. But now I use Sparkos SS2590. This is what I call "new dimension of quality".. I want to try them in my ZXR too after the Covid19 with my sound boxes (and with the Marantz pm8006). Anyways I used Beyerdynamic DT1990Pro for the tests.

If someone tried Sparkos SS2590 in ZxR then please share experience.

You welcome mate
Its me raymond, just different username since I forgot my password and no help restoring it..
I own both the ZXR and The Ae9Pe
While they're both sound The same with the same set of opamps, the ZxR does it with more authority, more authentic, more bass, more punch, the AE9 is like a restrained, digital version of the ZxR.
Ran both of them with signetics 5534an/philips 5532 date code 77,the sound on both is great, but the ZxR is more analog, warmer, punchier, more authentic.

One thing for sure, both are great and I came to the conclusion, that for pc sound cards, there's no replacement for creative top end sound cards, the software support is also great.

to me pcie sound cards just feels old school, I played enough with zxr did the cap mod, swapped op amps but now I'm moving on and I think everyone should, the burson PLAY/PLAYMATE is a whole different story its something new class D amps always sounded artificial to me but not when you first try them, class A or AB feels more organic with or without op amp rolling.
