Astell&Kern Launches New A&norma SR35 Player

Probably going to sound nice but I think I will stick with my FiiO M11 Plus ESS at least its battery doesnt drain in a matter of days while its switched off sitting on the shelf, my previous SA700 was terrible in that regard (drained 20% within a week of no use flat within a month of no use), I hope the SR35 doesnt suffer the same problem, kinda put me off Astell&Kern.

I'm experiencing a problem with my SR35 whereby the screen backlight turns on, but nothing is displayed. From boot, no A&K logo splash, and no UI.

I can access the file system if I plug it into my computer.

When this happened mid last year, I was able to get it into the Android boot recovery menu (from powered down, holding the bottom button and power button until a message is displayed) to perform a factory reset. However that button combination and several others I've tried are not working this time.

Any suggestions on what I might try to fix this?

Thinking about buying an SR35 as my upgrade from my AK240, which I got used. How is the SR35 fairing against the competition in 2025? I mainly use Qobuz and Spotify for podcast.

With Spotify, the really old version on your download tab (8.9.64.548 - from August 2024) does work. The newer versions (such as 9.0.38.433) do not. As a workaround you can install the older version to get logged in and then update. This does not work with Roon ARC.

Just out of curiosity, how often are your versions (on the download tab) updated? Some of them seem quite old.

Usually pretty regularly we do updates. We are currently in the process of updating all of our distribution servers, which will help us push updates out quicker and easier. We are expecting for everything to be completed and starting pushing updates soon.

Does the Astell & Kern SR 35 have such an affliction that at the beginning of the song in the first second you can hear a knock or tick?
Particularly audible when subsequent tracks have different sampling, e.g. in Tidal, or when you press next track, the next track plays for a while?

I'm using Tidal and have no issues

I dug my old SR15 out from the drawer this week, and regret it because it sounded great! I swore I was finished with DAPs and cables, but was inspired to buy this. The doubled battery life from the 15 is the clincher.

Amazon Music (25.10.2) now seems to require Android version 10 and can't be installed on the SR35. @JasonNYC - any chance of an Android update on this thing? It's not even 2 years old and still a current model for sale. This is especially frustrating since it was reported to have Android 11 when I purchased it.
