Astell&Kern Launches KANN ALPHA Digital Audio Player

The only real gripe i have with any Astell dap is the side buttons, once you put a case it is impossible to press the right one😅

The power button is annoying too, at least with the offical leather case. Anything longer than a light tap trigger shut down rather than turn off the screen, which makes it very hard to operate one handed on the go.

Yeah the alpha definitely hisses more than my ZX507 too. A couple of friends that have the R8 also confirmed that it hisses with some IEM’s in turbo mode. Pretty hard to avoid hiss with high power.
Also hisses with the Solaris 2020 and the Andromeda AG operating out of the 4.4mm, but damn they sound nice with the Alpha.
Sony M9 and Final Audio B1 and B3 have shown no noticeable hisses, but they require volume at something like 60 odd in low gain.
I am pretty impressed that the Alpha drives the ZMF Auteur very respectably.

In the end it will turn out that not having a carcass becomes a blessing ... XD

I am on the case of devising something prob very stupid just so i know where's play in the dark, like..a hole or a bump, in any case I'll likely damage that leather beauty 😄😄

I have given up and mostly use the screen to operate the player, hence the frequent use of the power button. The matte screen protector also makes it quite hard to see the screen under the sun......

Haha! I am always a terrible guy to ask about hiss. However, I do enjoy the Alpha on high gain. Lose the power and grip as it drives my difficult customs like the Fitear EST and Fitear Customs. It also gives a different dimension and depth to the sonics of the Final Audio A8000.

Same thing happened to me. Purchased from Headphones.com a couple weeks back and they are price matching any deals from authorized dealers during the holidays. I reached out to customer service and they’ll be mailing me the case. Check with your distributor about getting the case.

I reached out to Crutchfield and they took care of me. Glad to see that the dealers are being cool about it. :xf_cool:

Has any of Kann Alpha users compared it to the Shanling m6 pro?

I am thinking about buying the DAP Alpha / M6 Pr or new hiby R6 and I have a dilemma :frowning2:

I believe you still have a very wide "fork" of budget.... we are talking almost 1:2 ratio here :)

There is a real difference of around 400-500 euros depending on where you buy it ... I bought Kann Alpha for 1169 euros in Supersonido with a 10% discount and M6pro is around 759 euros. I have not heard M6pro, but there will be more differences than just the sound ... You can't go wrong with Kann Alpha... Incredible player.
