Do all of you carry your Kann Alpha out and about and that's the reason why you need to protect your screens please? thanks.

Kind of but I won't take the player out until I can get a proper cover and screen protector on it.

With the Pioneer I bought the Dignis case (I got lucky as I got a refurb one for half price) and the screen protectors I got of EBay for £2 I think.

I also found out that a neoprene IPhone 6 pouch was exactly the same size so I got that as something protect it when in my bag. Another £4.

It's just me being a nerd, haha. I've always looked after my gear I guess.

I don't mind protecting my Dap's .. as the usual expected life is so short  ...
I could find this on amazon.fr. it's note not 9H glass, but still better than nothing
VacFun Lot de 3 Clair Film de Protection d'écran, Compatible avec Astell Kern Kann Alpha AK-Kann-Alpha-OB, Film Protecteur sans Bulles(Non vitre Verre trempé): Amazon.fr: High-tech

For 2 weeks now I am using the Kann Alpha in some planes/trains/office/hotels with just this screen protection.

I am still desperate with it, because streaming is impossible in real life with those wifi cuts more or less every 15 minutes.
And more over it is impossible to set the Kann Alpha in BT5.0 LDAC receiver with my smartphone like I can do with my old WM1A, R6pro, M11.
It is a real pain to be obliged to use a USB-C cable between the Kann Alpha and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 just for streaming purpose!!! it's definitely too thick and too heavy to carry both items in the same pocket.

I will keep the Kann Alpha till end of February and if no firmware correct this issue from A&K, I will probably sell it for more or less 400€ and give a last try to the last Chi-fi item which seems quite powerful for headphones => the new ibasso Dx300.

I get scared when I see the 1.01 Firmware everytime I turn on my KA. Is there anyway to disable the Firmware Update notification? Or should I leave it always turn on and with sleep timer?

may i ask why the fear please? i'm a bit confused. i have the same Kann Alpha so i'm curious/interested. thanks.

because when I had original KANN I accidently updated the firmware which semi bricked my player and made me feel $hit. I waited almost a year for fix from AK but they never released it maybe because they wanted/force people to buy their new dap LOL

So is the WiFi drop out thing a common issue? Mine drops every 15 minutes or so. Although yesterday it managed to hold for about an hour after a reboot.

Do we know if A&K are planning to fix this in a future update? @JasonNYC

I qnt to buy his dap or the SA700, I AM also considering fiio M15 or M11 and ibasso dx300.

Seems like @JasonNYC Is super busy , but I won't be spending 1100€ on a dap just to give it a shot to see if it works with googlea speech output engine (screen reader), and if it doesn't work having to refund it and possibly losing some money

@JasonNYC how are AL dqps implementing Google android Talkback (screen reader for the blind) is ak music app accesible?
This was looked into by AK's dev team and some time was put into implementing it, but due to the highly customized Android code we use and the customized UI, there was no way to implement it without adding additional issues. The only way to really implement full accessibility is to get rid of the customization and use a more generic, non-modified build of Android and also redesign some of the hardware for optimization.

@JasonNYC: like you, i find my original Samsung Galaxy cellphone charging adapters to be working well with my Kann Alpha.

i also bought a super fast Samsung fast charger that came out specifically for the Samsung S20 Ultra a year ago when the S20 Ultra was introduced. i do NOT use this super fast charger for my Kann Alpha because i know that super fast charging is less good for lithiums than more gentle charging (less fast but better for the lithium cells).

i'm trying to preserve the Kann Alpha's lithium cells to the extent i can. sadly, when i plug it in to recharge for a couple of hours, often, i forget and leave it plugged in for more hours (~4 - 5 hours) than necessary. i really only need to plug it in for 2 - 3 hours approximately to go from around 20% up to around 90%. oh well, can't do everything perfectly! i'm hoping that charging to 100% isn't a disaster for the health of lithium cells. hard to know. anyone knows a lot about lithium cells?

"...This Samsung wall charger with 45 Watt Super Fast Charge capability uses Power Delivery (PD) to provide the most efficient charge possible...

...Fast charger delivers up to 3 Amp to give your phone power at a much faster rate than your standard 1A or 700mA charger..."

i wonder if 45 watts and 3 Amps is going to be good for the Kann Alpha's lithium cells or bad for them? @JasonNYC

The dignis case for the Kann Alpha is beautiful. Got myself a red one. I prefer it to the OG because of the cutouts for the 3 buttons on the side.

I do not have personal experience with this charger, but would recommend NOT using it.

Unfortunately that update did affect a number of KANN owners, less than 1% worldwide. Here in the US, I believe we had 3 players affected, two customer units, one a show demo unit in our office. My personal KANN updated without issue. The original KANN is an exception due to the multiple SD card slots and the inability of Android OS to natively support multiple card slots, which requires significant custom coding. It's the reason you see very little Android-based products with more than one slot.

KANN ALPHA is also running a newer version of Android. I understand the hesitation since you were directly affected by the KANN update, but AK's firmware track record over the last 8 years has been good, with this one exception.

KANN ALPHA is due a new firmware release soon. I will share once I get the timing. The dev team was transitioned back to work from home due to the rise in COVID cases in Korea before the holidays, so there is some delay in firmware release schedule. The SR25 had a firmware update this week, other players will follow soon.

I have passed on all of the comments over these last few pages to the dev team to research.

may i ask why one should NOT use that particular charger please? i would appreciate being educated about this. thank you in advance.
I read somewhere that it does not step down the max charging correctly with certain non-Samsung devices and could provide too much current. I do not have personal experience with it, just going by what I heard from others. I will look into it.

i made a mistake. i previously posted the incorrect model number. they all look so similar(!) and unless one were to read this tiny print carefully, they look virtually the same, especially when one has many of these chargers from having Samsung phones for years!

i am actually using this one (pic attached):

EP-TA200
Output: 9.0V 1.67 Amps
or 5.0V 2.0 Amps

@JasonNYC: may i ask if this one is safe to use? thanks in advance.

It will be the best news to read, and can make this Kann Alpha a keeper if they solve the wifi drops issue, though some of the other limitations can be annoying...
But global size/weight, high voltage output, very good sound quality (with nice fast and clear impacts in very low frequencies), speed to start reading music even it the dap is scanning a new SD in background are valuable features.
