I believe all modern AK players run a custom Android build.
I don't understand why the ak 100II is more expensive in many online stores thank the ak 300.
It's about 100$/€ more expensive. Does anybody know why?

Yeah I thought they would of dropped the price to sell them off if the AK300
Is replacing it.
Is replacing it.
And the AKM4490 is probably one of the best or if not the best off the shelf options right now for SQ.

Here's an unboxing video for the Astell&Kern AK300. Reviews are in progress, suffice to say, I was considering the AK300 vs AK320 and decided to purchase the AK300 after trying both players at the same time.

Yes, and the only other DAC that can top this is their upcoming AKM4495.

Thanks for the Unboxing video, I have sold my AK100 II and have one of these incoming. Care to give us some impressions on the SQ between the AK320 and AK300. Thank you in advance.

I'll be working on a full review in a few weeks once my review units get here. But based off my listening impressions at THE Show, the SQ difference between the AK100ii and the AK300 are very subtle while the difference from the AK300 to the AK320 are not subtle at all. The 320 gives a blacker background, more dynamic presentation and a more open sound stage. It also has a better amp if you plan on using the balanced output. That second DAC makes a very obvious difference.
As someone who runs an AK100ii right now, I'd say upgrading for sound quality alone isn't worth it for me. Fortunately, you also get things like a nicer screen, faster CPU, support for all the new accessories, etc. The AK300 is good overall and if I didn't have the AK100ii already, it'd be a much harder choice.

I have an AK Jr. and wouldn't mind getting the AK300 (if iRiver finally decide to start providing proper support). Beautiful design and, other than Jr., its the only newer AK model with a realistic price. Just found this that sums it up pretty well:
http://ohm-image.net/opinion/audiophile/astell-n-kern-wholesome-ak300
quote from the page:
"While succeeding the state-of-the-art DAC and scalability as applied to the AK380 and AK320, the latest model has improved accessibility by being priced at a reasonable level.
In other words, Astell & Kern's other 3xx series players are not priced in a sensible way, by sensible standards of judgement, or to a moderate or acceptable degree*."
I just want to point out that the page that you're quoting is quoting Atell's own marketing materials, seriously, that is lifted straight from astellnkern.com. At least they can admit that their own pricing is unreasonable.

Here's my review of the AK300. Bear in mind, I am mainly comparing the AK320 and AK300 as I was deciding which one to purchase after selling my AK100ii.
