I'm interested in getting a pair of grados, since ive heard nothing but good things for the sr60s bang for the buck But im thinking in the back of my mind if i would regret not paying the 20 bucks for the next level up. what do you guys think? are the sr80s difference in quality worth the 20 bucks? or is it not noticeable enough? gratzi

Spend the 20 Bux. That is the least of your worries. Grado's are great. I have a couple and want more.

I used to have the SR 80 a few months back, and now I have the SR 60 on my ears right now. I also have waaay different equipment than what I used to have, so forgive if I am a bit off.

The SR 60 has better comfort thanks to the fluffy pads, instead of the bowls the SR 80 comes with. But methinks it's because of these pads that everythign sounds bassier.

The SR 80 was "decent" for jazz, but imo jazz sounds a bit "off" on the SR 60. But they both excel very well for rock, yet the SR 80 is more controlled, sharper, and overall a slight but noticeable improvement from the SR 60.

Yes they are. Reason: Bowls. If you get 60s, you know you'll try Bowls at some point, why not get them from the get-go. You can then try 414 pads (I got a pair on Ebay for $8) to compare.

Yes. the biggest benefactor will be your bass, which would markedly improve.
Also the highs are a little less screechy I believe...

So, for SR80 price you can get SR60+bowls. Better deal, right?

Supposedly it's got a better cord too, but I don't know how much of that is marketeering.

Anyway, I enjoyed the SR 80 and didn't think they were too anemic on bass... which (while it was an eon ago) was my impression of the 60's when I had them on my head. That's just long term impressions though, I never got a chance to A/B them.

SR-80's sound way more detailed to my ears. The SR-60's are great all-around phones, but once the SR-80's break in (sound a little lifeless out of the box), they're a really great value.

If I remember correctly the Sr60 has a smaller driver that the rest of the prestige lineup. The iGrado and SR60 share the same driver. It is more than just pads and cord.

SR80 is worth the step up from the SR60.

It has been shown many times that the cable is completely different.
