I had the earphones plugged into my laptop the other night. Not realizing the phones were plugged in, I cranked up the volume on my laptop to hear something- basically, using my earphones like speakers. I think I had the volume turned all the way up! OUCH! Since then, I have noticed a couple of things: One, the earphones sound at lot harsher at the top end, very shrill. Gone is the smoothness I had come to appreciate. Also, the bass sounds don't seem as tight as they used to be, kind of rattles. Have I screwed these earphones up? Anything I can do to repair them? I feel like a doofus!

The coil could very well be out of alignment because of the excessive volume, especially if you start hearing distortion.

I am not sure how (or whether it is possible) to fix that kind of problem on an IEM.
