Are IEM's dangerous during takeoffs?

I've used e4s as earplugs on the flight, and they help me alot with the pressure. With them in I do not get the ear pain or losing my hearing like I usually have happen when the pressure changes since it feels like it is a more gradual pressure change.
So they actually help me, and I will not travel without them or some form of earplugs.

(crap - now they might confiscate IEM's as a terrorist weapon).

Of course I didn't expect my head to blow or anything like that. But as you're well aware, the eardrums are quite sensitive to pressure so I really didn't know how the pressure from sound and the pressure from altitude compare. But luckily it seems that there is nothing to worry about and I can have these pleasant trips also in the future.

I work on a submarine and I've worn my Ety ER-4Ss during diving/surfacing lots of times. The pressure onboard changes a lot more and just as quickly during that time than it ever will on an airplane, I can assure you. No problems so far. :-D

I go on dozens of transatlantic flights and another few short distance flights a year and I always have a pair of IEMs with me. Never have I ever had a problem.

Anyway, i keep my IEMs on the whole time, the only pain i've had was when i have a cold

Flying with a cold= unbelievable pain

oh yeah, a friend of mine had a cold during the flight from London to Zurich, it was pretty bad for him

I wear my IEMs the whole time during the flights (especially at takeoffs I need to listen to Juicebox by The Strokes), even on 12hrs flights.

the reason you cant use "stuff" durring takeoff and landing is simple. it is the time when an "accident" could possibly have life or death consequences because of seconds of delay by a passenger. if everyone can get off the plane in 120seconds as opposed to 135, more people may live.

this is also the reason you should ALWAYS wear lace up shoes on the plane.

the airplane accident that caused the most loss of life happened on the ground, 2 planes drove into each other in the fog.

QFT -- the cabin crew want your full attention during takeoff and landing, so don't wear your earplugs. Takeoff, btw, is the most dangerous phase of the flight.
