For listening to noise free good quality mp3 (about 128-256 kbps) or good quality YouTube music videos, does it make a big difference between a ~$100 dollar (or higher) good headphone (say mdr v6/7506, shp9500, grado sr80e, ATH M50x, hd6xx etc) vs ~$30 good budget ones (like koss porta pro, ksc75, khp30i, ktxpro1, sennheiser px100, tascam th02, jvc flats, monoprice 8323 etc).

PX100s are killer but haven't been made in a long time. If you found some new, buy all you can.

There are a lot of sonic differences in cheap headphones. It is often difficult to get good soundstage and smooth response without spending a lot of money. Many of the cheaper choices have emphasized bass or hot treble. Sometimes on purpose, sometimes because that's all they could do for the money.

At the less expensive price point look out for comfort also. Some have thin pads or painful headstraps. Not that these things don't happen with more expensive headphones but they're more likely with less expensive ones because of the materials.

Yes the PX100 is very good. I still have a couple of them (white and black) from 2007, and now since they are not available anymore, I am careful with them and use it a bit sparingly and instead reach for the other ones like the porta pro, ksc75 etc which I can afford to drop break. I had several PX100's in 2007 which I gave as gifts to friends and family.

I don't know what to advise. I didn't try the Porta Pros but people say they're very good for the money. I like the HD 25 but they make you look like an astronaut and the stock pads are pretty sweaty in hot climates.

I took out my PX100 (1st ver) since you guys are talking about them. Yeah, they are that good.

I'm careful with mine too.

The difference between 30$ and 100$ cans is basically always audible.

Difference between 500$ and more than that requires a certain level of Source quality and amplification as well
