I have both, both sound very good. I'd say the ipod is a little blacker, X3 warmer and much more powerful. if I had to choose, I'd take the X3 but I love bass. X3 is a little more fun. ipod sounds very good though. For a lighter sound, I think ipod has that. just my 2 cents.

I hear you. I love bass.... total basshead, but I love hearing the details, cymbals, highs, etc. Hard to find a happy medium.

Rumors are an iPod Touch 6th will be launched when the Apple Watch goes on sale early next year. I hope but you are probably right that the Touch is going the way of the Classic, oblivion.

I would buy a 128G Touch 6 in an instant, but given that less than 1% of Apple's revenue came from the iPod in Q4, I wouldn't hold my breath..
