Anyone use Portaphile with UM3X?

Posted a similar query on the UM3X thread on IEM forum, but thought I'd ask here as well.
 
Love my amps and my IEMs but just cannot get the UM3X and Portaphile combo to sound great.  Any suggestions or ideas on how to do this, or is it a bad headphone/amp combination??
 
Using iPod Classic with everything in Apple Lossless
