Server is 450mhz, 768mb ram, andhas nothing plugged into it but power and LAN. It has 300gigs of storage(on 6 HDs total), and dvd drive setup to autorip any disc i put in it.

Laptop is 700mhz 256mb ram, 60 gig HD. I keep it in the keyboard tray so i can slide it out and open it. I use it for mostly the video output to my TV to watch movies on when i'm using both other monitors, as well as taking to classes, car trips, etc.

Bet your roommate hates you.

I run 4 (assuming an xbox w/ linux counts),

one is in the dinning room and is the "family comp" so basically every one uses it and i get stuck fixing it (spyware, ect) but tis useful when im cooking or waiting for something.

the next one is in my room, its large and noisy but its where i spend most of my time (movies, surfing, ect) the sound on that is also tied into mom and dads theatre system. i run foobar on it

the next is my laptop, its my "remote control" ill put it next to me when i cook and it will display the recipe, also ive set it up so i can control what music plays on my big maching through this laptop ( i can type 192.168.2.45:4800 and i can change the track ect) thus the name "remote"

lastly is my xbox. it holds some files and plays dvds/games

The laptop and my main rig are both completely silent, and the server gets turned off at night because it IS noisy.

He actually most likely hates me because i'm 20 and have lots of friends, and he's only 16 (in college!!!!), foreign, and has no friends. It's his fault if he never leaves the room and gets annoyed by by HD noise.

Wait a minute, what about my 1000watt surround sound setup?? I bet that pisses him off, too. And the fact that i get up at 7am every day. Man, he really does hate me

I have to question your use of a beowulf cluster. What purpose is there for a cluster at home? I had a 32 node cluster (at school) I used for computational chemistry. I've had thoughts of setting up a cluster at home, but really have no need except the fun of setting it up.

I mainly set it up so I could get experience with Linux networking, and it Folds for Team Rage3D. I also had all the parts laying around, so it didn't cost me a dime(except for sleep, that switch is LOUD).

I'ce got 4 going right now. A DP G5 with dual 20" (1600 x 1200) LCDs, a PC for on-line poker (where I get my money to pay for audio toys) another athlon machine for running psychometric software with its own 20" LCD and an old dell laptop for my powerpoint presentations. They are all networked, both wired and wireless, and I can grab control of any one with another using timbuktu.

I really hate the windows machines, even though they out number my mac 3:1, if I could get my psychometric software running on the mac, and get mac clients for playing poker, these things would be in a ditch off the highway somewhere in a heartbeat.

Ha!....that's funny Alu, got a kick out of it. Actually I'm not as far along with the headphones (blasphemy here huh?) since most of my wallet has gone to my multitrack recording stuff. I got a few Maxell closed backs and Senn HD212s. But obviously since I'm coming to this site I'm thinking about some better cans for the house.

I use my Dell XPS Gen 4 to do all my burning, editing, etc. I keep another slim Dell tower attached to a 400 gig external HD, loaded with WAV files. I run it 24/7 with iTunes to act as the music server for the Roku M2000 in my main HT system and the Roku M1000 in my kitchen. Other than that, I keep a few laptops around for work.

I currently use 3 computers, but I have large number of computers in various states all over the house:

1) Main workstation, dual 17" Sony LCD, P4-3Ghz, 1 gig ram, 320 gigs storage total, GeForce 6800, Audigy 2, WinXP Pro. Games, websurfing, watching movies, and experiments...

2) Server, P3-800, 512 MB, 210 Gig storage total, Win2k Server. Web Server, FTP, Downloading, Print Server, DNS, File Server (stream MP3, divx, etc etc).

3) Laptop: IBM Thinkpad A31, upgraded CPU to P4-2.4 Ghz, 768 MB Ram, 60 Gig 7200 rpm HDD, 15" SVGA+. Its my "clean/stable" machine, that I use for school, work, and my projects. I don't do anything experimental with that machine, and thats the machine I write all my papers on, work on school projects, etc.

Coming Soon: Fujitsu Lifebook P7010 ultraportable... a 3.3lb notebook that will be my constant companion...
