I've done it with a few albums now, specifically with my Steve Hoffman release of Hotel California. I rip it to FLAC with EAC, use foobar2000 to generate a cue sheet, then burn it with CD text w/ Nero.

Now I can keep the original in pristine condition in a safe location, plus I have CD-text. Does anyone else like to do this?

I don't do this, but know of some others who do. Unless gapless is truly needed, I tend to create separate tracks.

For increasingly convenient use of DAPs or PMPs instead of CDs, breaking up the FLACs into separate tracks - per the cue sheet - is generally required. Not all of the FLAC-capable players can handle cue sheets and a single FLAC file.

I use EAC to rip to gapless FLAC files, one FLAC file per track. Foobar2000 can take the individual FLAC tracks with gapless info, and create a cuesheet from them. Then you can reburn, with the only variation being the CD-Text added.

I'm continually engaged in the process that you've described. I have many albums that haven't been copied as yet though.

Note that you want to have a good scanner/reader. You also want a good burner and good media of course. Many CD and DVD drives are rather mediocre in these regards. If you wish to know more, I would recommend heading over to cdfreaks.com. I have a few drives, each of which serves a different purpose. Use Nero Speed to check the quality of your burned CDs. You can also test your burned DVDs as well the CDs/DVDs you bought in stores. The link to the software: http://www.cdspeed2000.com/

You do know EAC will create a non-compliant CUEsheet.

Hit F4 to detect gaps, then under actions create a CUEsheet[non-compliant].

After I lost all my FLAC rips once before, I didn't have it create CUE sheets anymore the second time around. Then I fiddled around a bit with foobar2000 and Nero, and found out how brilliantly those two pieces of software can operate.

Ah, sounded like you were ripping to a single file - my bad assumption. Yeah, that's a flexible system, similar to what I do (although, I admittedly don't care much about gapless for all my ripping, only specific pieces - for those, I create single files and later break them up as needed).

Give it a run through on Foobar2000. Use the converter and "Convert to Album Images with with Cuesheets or Chapters". Then convert it to a wav file. If you ripped to FLAC correctly in the first place, the output will be perfect.

Has anyone tried copying a CD to individual FLACs plus EAC CUE, then re-burning it to see if the tracks and CD have the same CRC values?

This would be an ideal solution for me... It would be nice to be able to burn a perfect copy from separate files. I've ripped a few albums into single-file FLACs with CUEs, but of course that makes it difficult to queue up tracks from different albums.

All the CRCs match each other, but not the original log CRCs. The bit in bold says you can't.

I've done it for about 5 of my most treasured albums. I also scan the covers, spines, booklets, and reprint them. It's a relief

At the risk of sounding ridiculously naive--because I am about this stuff--can you please tell me how to do this (create a CUE sheet while using EAC to create indivdual track FLACs)?

Earlier this year I was converting my rather large CD collection (several thousand disks) to FLAC, and I was, I'd have sworn, creating the CUE sheets on the fly as I converted to individual track FLACs using EAC. But then I got sidetracked, and now that I've returned to the project, I can't remember how I was doing it!

Any help would be very much appreciated--thanks!

Prior to ripping in EAC[put in CD]. Hit 'F4' to detect gaps[this takes 10-20seconds]
Go to Action > Create CUE Sheet > Multiple WAV Files With Gaps... (Noncompliant)[it asks you were to put it...]
