Apparently Cardas has a new tubed Headphone amp which was at the Vacuum Tube State of the Art Show in Washington this past week.

According to the pic below, it was hooked up to a pair of HD-600s.

It will sell for under $500.

Did anyone get a chance to hear it, and if so, how did it sound?

Wonder what tubes those are???

Is that a 4-pin XLR headphone jack for AKG K1000's, too?

That sure is...someone linked to a closeup of that before. The tubes said Consonance, but I don't think its a Consonance product. Looks like KT-66's?

Edit: The article says the output tubes are KT-88's.

It does look like a consonance product to me with the wood and brushed aluminum look. Just kind of backwards design from normal.
jpelg, I can see your K-1000 mind working from here.

$459 for the kit.

$774 assembled.

It is not clear to me if that includes tubes, or not.

Also, at 3-10 wpc, I question its ability to drive the K1000's with real authority.

It is pretty though.

Hmmm, the Positive Feedback VSAC pics identified it as a Cardas amp, but 6moons says it is a Chazz/Consonance amp? And, supposedly it is being sold by KevinP at DIY Cables?

Wonder how it sounds with the HD600s?

jpelg,

I'm guessing that you must be confused about how much power the K1000's actually need. The RKV amp is famous for driving them extremely well and it only outputs only 2 watts per channel (quoted from the Meier Audio site).

Are the power ratings you guys are talking about into 8 ohm load or into 120, which is what the K-1000's are rated at?

Oh man,

That amp looks trick but as the owner of a few Consonance products and user of many more,I have to express some strong doubts about the quality of Consonace products. Attendees of the last Chicago meet will be sure to confirm that none of the four Consonace/Opera products we had on hand worked properly. My own M-99Plus and M100 integrated amps required replacement/exchange. The 2A3 headphone amp(I forget the model number) never worked right and I was unable to get a replacement. The smaller EL 84 amp burned a hole in a table cloth(from the bottom of the chassis) and I had to pay for it. It also never worked. Unless QC has improved greatly,I would take a pass.

Well, its rebranded chinese stuff. What do you expect?

They don't exactly have high levels of Testing and QA there, and if they do it is usually voluntary.

Not all chinese products are built poorly. My mmf CD25, and my Shanling CD-T100 are both built like tanks and neither have given me any problems.
