Hello everyone, first post!

Saw a nice review in What Hifi? this month and wondered if anyone had tried this new version of the Grado.

I've been using the 125s and wondered if I should try for the RS-1i or the 325is. I kinda like the new silver design.

Yes, I have owned both of those, and used them almost exclusively through the pico DAC/amp. I found the 325is a little bright with the oversampling dac, so I sold them, but really missed the grado sound, so I took a step up the ladder and bought the rs1i's.

I have never heard the 125s unfortunately, but I can say that the step up was not quite as large as I was hoping, and that if it hadnt been for the slight sibilance I was experiencing with the 325i (and the fact that I bought the rs1i's second hand) I probably would have returned them, saved some cash and gone for the 225's or tried the Alessandro series.

Having said that, I am rather hooked to the grado sound, and am intrigued to hopefully one day hear some of the HP and PS range....

indeed the rs1i is excellent. I didn't really appreciate it until after I listened to them for a couple hours and went back to my sr60. Once you go there you cant go back

Thanks hughwi. Did you compare the RS-1i to the RS-1s? Is there a nice bump up in sound quality?

I have both currently (well the SR-325i/RS-1i) and the RS-1i sounds far more refined.

ROFLMAO ! Well picked up, 1up - can only assume that he is selling them to finance the purchase of a pair of HD800s. Depending on your POV, thats not technically 'going back'.

in a recent meet, I listened to the 325is (new version) and the RS1 (non i). The sound is very very similar, and like ZombieX said, the RS1 is more refined.

If you think the 325i is a bit bright, you may find the RS1 just as bright.

Why don't you give the HF2 a try?

Cheers.

I have the new silver 325i and they're worth every penny, in my opinion. Superb headphones that really benefit from decent amplification and source. Do you have any specific questions about them and the RS1i?

325i and rs1i here, both are very good. The RS1i is a bit smoother in the highs and is a bit more colored.
I did have the SR125 but sold it before the Sr325i arrived so can't really compare.

That's good to know. I'd like the RS-1s but 325is is more in my budget range.

Have you considered buying used? I'm not sure whether you're thinking of buying used anyway, but the typical used price for an RS1 is around $550 I believe. Although if it's the 'i' version you're after it will probably be more. Definitely something to consider anyway.

If you can swing the extra $130, the HF-2 is your best bet. You will have to wait a while for them (the orders are being met 50 per week, and there are about 400 orders placed right now), but early comparisons are saying that they are much closer to the RS-1 than their price would suggest. They also have nice metal cups like the 325i. On top of that, they are limited edition and will probably hold value very nicely. And $40 from each pair goes to head-fi. Look into them.

Also, in response to Rhinosaur, used RS-1s usually go for around 500 or so, but if you are patient, you can find much lower. I got mine for only $440.

I have the older gold SR325i, and can tell you that they don't sound like most other Grados. IMO, if you prefer the base Grado sound you'd be OK jumping the the 225s, but if you don't mind a slight divergence I find the 325i to be a real sweet spot in the lineup. They're as good as you can go before Grado's "it's made of wood!" premium starts kicking in.
