GPS? What's that?

I got Waze, tells me how long travel will be, tells me there's a cop up ahead, turn left or right in 1000 feet, debris up ahead, car on the shoulder, construction up ahead, ...

And its free...

It does seems like that app uses GPS for tracking

I believe it uses the wireless network. If it is using GPS then my smartphone would need to have GPS which it doesn't have one.

I did buy a GPS a couple years ago because my phone would disconnect in far rural areas. So I had to use a dedicated GPS to find my way out in no man’s land. These days, I’m not driving out in odd areas so I probably don’t need a GPS or maybe phone connections are much better now.

It also depends on your cellphone provider. Some have better coverage than others.
