No, not the movie....

The Lyric Opera of Chicago is putting on the full "Ring of the Nibelungen", Wagner's four opera cycle. This is my second time attending a full Ring Cycle and I'm fairly excited. Though some might consider 4 nights of Wagnerian opera torture, I am so looking forward to immersing myself in the music and story once again.

So, anyone else going to be there?

Which cast are you seeing? I heard that Eaglen cancelled a performance or two last week. I haven't seen LOC's Ring but I've seen the MET's four times. I wish I was going to Seattle's Ring later this year but my finances wouldn't permit it. In any case, have a great time and let us know how it was.

Eaglen is scheduled, as is James Morris as Wotan, John Treleaven as Siegfried and Placido Domingo as Siegmund. I had not heard about Ms. Eaglen cancelling this week, so will have to wait and see what the situation is.

My previous Ring was here in Chicago as well. This is a revival of that production, and should seem familiar, yet still glorious.

Just a quick update - halfway through. We saw Valkyrie last night with Placido Domingo singing the role of Siegmund. Can I just say that I now understand why he is so renowned? There were at least 3 moments when he left me shivering and in total awe. Absolutely astounding.
