I picked up a pair of Skullcandy Ink'd ear buds dirt cheap and they are alright for what I need them for, but the microphonic effect of the cord is killing me. Is there any reasonable way of reducing this short of recabling them (a waste on 7$ buds)?

You could probably slit a spark-plug wire down one side and just wrap the white, inner portion around the wires; sealing them with a light layer of clear silicone in the slit after you tear out the conductor wire and wrap them around your ear-bud wires. Or you could use a piece of heat-shrink tubing, with as large in diameter as the inner jacket from the plug-wire is, which should fit right over the plug to your phones so you can shrink it around that jacket you added. Understand what I'm saying?

Actually, I have heard these too!

These are great methods for reducing microphonics. They have drastic effects and are quick and simple to do.

Also consider stepping on them.
