The best to get are the Auvi models: dr7/dr480, dr77.

But has anyone elses started developing faults?

I'm still using a couple of Sony MD players. I used to own Sharp MDs but they kept breaking so I decided to try Sony's. To my ears the Sony MD still sounds better than my IPOD mini 6GB. The last couple of CDs I encoded with AAC using 320kbps. The IPOD sounds very digital and kind of harsh to me while the MD sounds fuller and richer. I'm usung Shure E3c headphones right now. I like the convenience of the IPOD but I enjoy the sound of the Sony MD player much better.

I have a red R900 I bought @ 2 years ago. This June I bought a NHF-800 to get to experience HI-MD and have a radio. It's a chintzy unit compared to the 900 but works well and I'm not so careful with it. It worked out great on vacation since I didn't have to take a minidisc and a radio. It also runs on 1 AA battery which I really when I'm road tripping!

Recently, I'm lusting after the RH10 with the OLED display. Just haven't found a good way to rationalize it yet. I'll probably end up going with the 'Cause I Like It' reason on this one.

I have two Sony E75 MD players, one is dead and the other works
I also have a Sharp DR7 which is a great sounding unit but the volume buttons and FF and play buttons get mixed up sometimes (hit FF and instead of jumping a track it raises the volume). Still sounds glorious though...i prefer it over my Rio Karma!

I'm also a very happy md-user. I own several units; some old-skool (orange R50, blue R70, red E75), some relativly new (silver DS70, black DR80, silver NH1) and some in between (Pansasonic SJ-MJ15Z and SJ-MJ58)... I'm going to sell a few units in the near future to get myself some cash for the EH930 I want to buy!

That happens to the dr7 when dust gets in between the buttons. Try cleaning it with some air.

After the headphone jack on my Sony MZ-N510CK crapped out, I had to go back to my old MZ-R70 until I got a new unit. I just bought a brand-new Sharp IM-DR80 on e-bay for $120 and it rocks!

Initially, the remote made me cranky because the hold switch is on the back side (by the clip) and there are a total of nine (!) itsy-bitsy-teeny-tiny buttons on the remote (4 along the top edge of the LCD and 5 along the bottom edge)...by the time I'd switched the hold button "off", I'd also pressed an assortment of buttons and unintentionally changed tracks, volume levels, display options and menu defaults. I'm getting used to it now and I don't even have to stop moving, take it off, hold it in both hands and concentrate on only hitting the buttons I want anymore.

The sound quality is pretty amazing and the build quality seems good. I'm hoping that this one lasts me for a good long time. If the format continues to evolve, then I'll stay with it when the time comes for a new unit. Of course, by "evolve," I mean losing that SonicStage mess, adding Mac compatibility, etc, etc, etc. I know that's probably not in the cards, but I can dream, can't I?

If MD units are used in the traditional way (optical recording), they don't need a computer! All the recording, editing, titling can be done via tradtional MD recorders. The only downside is that it requires lots of time.

Since I got my HD3 as my graduation present, I haven't really used MD much anymore, but that's probably because the lens block on my E700 is dead

so far what I have:
MZ-E50 (w00t, first Mg piece of electronics!...)
MZ-E35
MZ-E70
MZ-E90
MZ-E700
MZ-R910
MZ-S1 x2
MDS-JA20ES (trays are sweet)
SJ-MJ77
AM-HX70
DMP-R50 (slot load, PWNED!!)

I think that's all of them...

I used to have a "blue" MZ-E900 too but I sold it.

For its small size & good sound, I really like the MZ-N10.

Having bought an MZ-1 within days of introduction, the MZ-N10 is quite a little miracle.

Those were the days. One battery pack (about the size of the MZ-N10 and much heavier) equalled one disc. Still the MZ-1 has strong output and a nice slot loading mechanism along with real-time analog control of recording levels. It would make a nice recording deck for a home mini-stereo system.

I tried that to no avail. I think that's why i gave up on md and picked up a njb3 instead.

I have a sony one (forgot the model and I'm too lazy to go look). I did like it alot, but that iriver h120 won me over instantly. The MD was back when I wasn't even a n00b. So I was doing that whole netmd thing which drove me nuts as the software is awful and eventually I got sick of it. Since I came hear and ahve been getting into good sound with my music I've had a rekindled interest in the format and ahve begun recording to them the way they were originially intended. And it sounds great and you gotta love the line out. So I'll def hang on to it and it will find a niche to fill for me yet. (perhaps car audio so I don't have to carry my iriver everywhere. I've always had a fascination with the format though. Seems like it could have been so much more than it is (if that made any sense). By any chance does anyone know of any decent netmd software as sound quality won't be huge when I make discs for car use?

My Sharp DR-7 is still my "grab it on the way out the door" player, while I primarily listen to the Rio Karma at home. Wonderful sound, records as easily as a tape recorder, and built like a tank.

In love with MDs fot 3 years now. Started w/ MZ-N707, then got into some vintage models like MZ-E80, MZ-R50, MZ-E33. Then got MZ-S1.

Now got into Hi-MD with MZ-NH910. Still have all the players/recorders with me. Dont have heart to sell my collection
