Any football (soccer) fans?

I'm more of an armchair fan really, but I know plenty people who go to the matches, I am a Newcastle United fan, but you do get quite a lot of the game on the TV, so its cheaper for me to watch on TV. Its about £500 ($900) for a season ticket, and thats not counting beer money and whatnot, as a match is more often a day out rather than just a couple of hours. Then if you go to the away matches its even more expensive. Dont get me wrong, I like watching the games, but not enough to spend that much money on it, each to their own though, for a lot of people I work with, football is to them what music is to me - something of a hobby / way of life.

Oh, and Newcastle never win nowt. The last time they won a major trophy was 1969, the Intercity fairs cup, and I wasnt even born then

I am a Cambridge United fan, for what that is worth!

You will be (possibly) upset to know that I live within about 15 minutes of Highbury, but as I am not an Arsenal fan and don't go to games it doesn't really help me. It would help you but you live in the US

Whadda ya do?

So I guess you didn't see Arsenal v Chelsea in the FA cup last Sunday? Pretty good game, Reyes looked tasy. Good job as he cost £17 million!

Do Gridiron players cost as much? I think it is a ludicrous amount of money, but if they bring the same value to their club (Beckham in shirt sales) I guess it is worth it. I would like just one week's paycheck tho, £80,000 would buy a crap load of headphones!

Sleepkyng, I'm in just your situation -- big Arsenal fan, no satellite TV in the US. So I just follow the goings-on in Europe over the Internet. Someday I'll make a match at Highbury.

A MAGPIE!

man, i love alan shearer, he is one class act.

Mr.easy-
don't be surprised if i show up at your house to crash after an arsenal game one of these days!

american footballplayers don't get paid very highly (in perspective)
baseball players are more close to the payrolls of soccer players

a-rod's 250million usd over 10 years is one example.

bln- one of these days, you wanna get out there and watch a game? i'm down for travelling. $209 from NYC to london

Growing up in Asia, soccer <ahem football... as the rest of the world calls it> is the Game. I remember going to secondary school (middle school) and all we fellas would take about is the English Premier league or the Italian Calcio Serie A.

AC Milan was the team when they had half the Dutch national squad in the team.

As for the Brits, Liverpool was my fav. team... but that was when John Barnes was still their mid-fielder.

Jeez.. am I that old?

Nah, I can remember that too, and I am not that old

Yeah, he is our best player. God help us if he gets injured. At least we got Micheal Bridges now I suppose

I get digital cable so I'm privy to a lot of the soccer (football) and rugby games played in Great Britain, and they are real fun to watch, especially for me because I am not a U.S. football fan.

Watching Thierry Henri is one of the greatest things ever.

he is so incredibly unselfish, graceful and brilliant.

yeah baseball players get ridiculous salaries.

and plus they play more years.

with the exception of darrell green and some other nfl veterans. most NFL guys go for about. 8-9 years tops.

I like football so much but because in the last 5 years, I've been living in Sydney and Philadelphia. I don't know much about it. Gee I miss the days when me and my friends were hangin' out together watching footballs and having a bet

Not a big soccer fan but that hasn't stopped me from being a World cup fan. I still feel sorry for all the people in my dorm I awoke watching Korea's flukey run back in 2002.

Here in Puerto Rico, we get together to watch the Real Madrid on TVE (Spanish Television) via cable. This team is the dream team of European soccer. Here's some of the super stars in that team: Rolando, Zidane, Beckham, Raul, Roberto Carlos, and Figo! Believe me, this team is a joy to watch! They are really good!

Ahh, I am a footballl nutt! I am a big fan of FC Partizan Belgrade. We are not big in European scene, since we haven`t produced a notable result in international scene for decades. Our last big opportunity to make history was back in 1966, when we lost European Champions Cup finals against Real Madrid. We are poor and unable to keep our best players for more than two or three sesons, so we`ll probably never win anything but we will not give up trying.
biggrin.gif

This season we made it into European Champions League and pulled three home draws against Real Madrid, FC Porto and Olimpique Marseille, but we lost all three away games which, unfortunatelly, wasn`t enough to qualify to the 2nd round..

So, most of you probably never heard of us (well, pbirkett most definitely did, since we`ve kicked Newcastle UTD`s ass twice in last five years

), but our time shall come. Like...some day.

I play football with my mates since the age of 5, I am addicted to football on TV and I also bet quite a bit (If you have a nice tip for the weekend, let me know, OK?
wink.gif
). My club is based in a foreign country, so I am able to afford watching only our international matches. Memories of seeing our boys playing against Shearer, Ronaldo, Zidane, Carlos and others always tease a tear in my eyes...

wow, my this is my longest post in months...
