I'd like to look into a new portable IEM amp and or DAC (UE 900s + Shure e5).  But do any DAC's or connectors actually bypass the iPod DAC?
 
If not it seems DAC would be useless feature for use with iPod.

I use Fostex HP-P1 with last gen iPod 'Classic' - you can add separate amp (HP-V1) to this bundle. Also used Centrance HiFi M8 which is v good.

The Cypher Labs Theorem 720 DAC/AMP does but it is pricey. It is also said to have a slight hiss with some iems.
