Hello,

HD600 and other anti AKG users :

If you agree that the AKG series of headphone K 401/ 501 and Studio Monitors are bass shy you should actually be very thankfull for this.

If this is true this means that if a music CD is mastered on AKG's and the sound engineer is not happy with the level of the low frequencies he will boost them.

The result is that users with non AKG headphones get WOW bass.

Or you could throw away all your other headphones and use AKGs, and get the perfect level of bass...

Not that they produce it, but just to show that it does work both ways.

Hello,

I agree that the reverse is also true.

If a music was mastered with bass heavy equipment the bass will be attenuated.

People from the old school would most likely agree about the studio and production effect of RIAA on LP's.

The AKG K501 is an open headphone and would therefore not be used in the studio. I've not auditioned the K240 which is a closed model that IS used sometimes in studios. Moreover, I have heard the Sony V6 and Beyerdynamic DT770 which are both somewhat bass heavy and they are both popular choices for studio use.

To take it one step further, most people would agree that pop and rock recordings tend to err on the side of bright.

I have bothe AKG 401's and 301's. I understand your point about the Bass issue with these headphones. Actually, the 301's are much easier to drive than the 401's. The X-Can v2 is the only amp that I have owned that can drive the 401's to a level I am satisfied with. I also have the HeadRoom Little; but the Little has a hard time driving the 401's; I have to turn up the volume on the Little to 2 or 3 o'clock to get a decent level. With the X-Can; only 11 or 12 o'clock.

The 301's are easier to drive with the Little, and the X-Can can drive them to earsplitting levels.
