I like the new firmware, DSD playback is working fine too - great, but why you removed the option "Play Display" which was in FW 2.1 available? I've tested before the beta FW 2.14 and since this version I missed this option.

Play Display
There are three options: Cover, Lyrics and ID3 (The priority of the three ranks in this sequence);press vol+ or vol- to switch.

I prefer no covers at all all and now I can't change this view anymore, that's sad, any way to change this viewing style? Thanks.

thank you, this update brings the X3 even closer to perfection :)

improvements/fixes:
track scan/skip: faster, fixed buffer (echo) problem when skipping "back"
cue support: now works with my mp3/cue mixes
artist/album/track browsing: work properly now (before: artist->track showed all artist's tracks without album)

new bugs: none so far.

suggested remaining "minor" enhancement:
improve data display during playback. the screen is really large enough to "constantly" display full track information (artist, album, track).
currently artist and track pops up for seconds.

last note: the rare "lost control" (display/playback out of sync) bug is most likely fixed (cannot be 100% sure after one hour of testing)

regards, csp

Thanks for new firmware Fiio. I was really looking forward to it. Here are my quick impressions:

- skipping songs is now much more quicker (and so far without freezes)
- i like new look, black theme is my favourite
- i like new GUI except two things:
1.main menu - i would rather scroll only up and down than this 3x2 menu, where one button scrolls both vertical and horizontal
2.volume changing display - it has slow response and its only thing i dont like visually on new x3 (but thats really a minor thing)
- album pictures are zoomed (left and right sides are cutted off) - guess its cause of new GUI. Doesnt bother me at all.
- my ears tells me, that it sounds better now. Placebo effect? Or was something done to the sound?
- absence of id3tag lyrics support, which i was hoping for, is a bit disapointment for me

I like the new firmware. However: still no support for playlists? This was the one thing I really really missed on my X3... and I suppose I will have to move on without them. Or...?

I've just upgrade the firmware for my X3 to 3.0. Everything is improved, except the playback on some of my high definition tracks (FLAC, 96,24).  Specifically those bought on prostudiomasters.com. When I access an album, the firs track plays ok, but the player frezes when the second track is accessed. No problem with my other high definition tracks bought elsewhere (hd tracks, qobuz, etc.) or ripped CDs.

Looking for a solution or walkaround.

Check your artwork on the files, they may be to large. you can change them with mp3tag. Also delete anything that is not a music file.

Thanks DeLaw,

You put me on the right path!

The difference with the tracks that caused the player to freeze vs. the others was that the artwork of those was directly in the meta of each individual track instead of being in a separate file. I removed the artwork for the sake of testing and gone is the problem.

I'll restore the original tracks meta upon resolution of the problem (next firmware update, hopefully).

Well, I upgraded the firmware, no problem.  The new look and feel is very good, I like the themes provided.  General navigation is good.  I've not really had time to look at other aspects.

However, the sound, on my player at least, has deteriorated.  Depth and detail have gone to be replaced with a more brittle sound.  I thought I was imagining it so restored version 2.1 and all is well again.

Hmmm, not a good situation.  Has anyone else had this experience?

I'm only using cheap'ish headphones - Sennheiser PX100's, but the difference is very noticeable.

Yes i have the same experience. ..the sound become less punch...and for me feels like electronic sound...i really don't like it...i went back to install firmware 2.1...
