Cosplay could be fun.

It helps to know how to sew and put on make up. But there are some not cool people doing this also. Is it extreme to dress up? Maybe not as to some it could be as crazy as having 10 headphones but it's all about some people's demeanor. There are some very friendly people and some jerks and some weirdos. All of my anime loving friends are decent people.

Well, anime is also considered as an art in Japan. Once I read in Daily Yomiuri that there is possibility to study a major in anime (or so) available at Osaka University (not sure); Ghibli Studio has its own museum in Tokyo and you can find art books which teach you how to paint "anime style".

Well, I'm not really a fan of anime either but a couple of month's ago I saw the "famous" anime movie "Akira" and it wasn't really that bad.

No offence, but it just seems so Asian to me. It's no part of our European culture and it looks a little childish too imo, but that's just me.

I'd heard about Akira for years, and I finally caught it a few months ago - crap. I thought the ending particularly incoherent. Speed Racer meets Frank Miller. I'll stick with Miller's "Ronin" for the same kind of cybernetic mayhem done better.

Wow... cosplay done right....

Now, if only Americans could be like that... but then again seeing as how the majority of animes are aimmed at kids in this country some of those costumes might be inappropriate.

Guys, I feel I need to apologize for some of my crazy ranting. I tend to go off once in awhile, sorry.

EDIT: Once again, I have nothing against anime fans, or those that like foreign media or culture. I enjoy those things as well, at times. It's just many of the ones I've met in person and online (90x worse BTW) were quite insane and stuff And when I say stuff, I mean being a really big a**hole. If you're a fanboy who fits this, just learn not to be a d**k. It's not that hard. Don't say s**t you wouldn't say to someone's face. Be a man/woman for goodness sakes. Just because you're behind a computer or costume doesn't give you the right to be a dumb*ss. Don't be proud of being a bad person.

Murakami: No. You don’t understand because you have never been to comike (comic market). You have never seen the place where 450,000 people get together for only two days. It has more visitors than a Woodstock concert. All those people [those people = cosplayers/otaku] look so happy there. But you can’t imagine what kind of people they are. Many of them have atopic dermatitis all over the bodies and are abnormally obese. They are ugly. That’s why they are disliked. There are some persons physically deformed. Who can help them in Japan?

Wakasa: I didn’t know that at all.

Murakami: For them it’s truly a salvation. It’s the same as the Shingon sect gave in old times. People get together at comike because they think a truth exists there. Because I have been studying otaku for a long time, I have a solid understanding by now. However, you cannot understand otaku by merely looking at the surface. Even people who come to comike themselves don’t want to accept the reality that they are suffering from atopic dermatitis.

Wakasa: Are girls wearing comic costumes, too?

Murakami: Yes. People on photographs often happen to be pretty. They become stars. Some girls suffering from atopic dermatitis aim to be like them.

Wakasa: Although you are trying to make a positive contribution to the society through art, you seem to have given up improving the situation in Japan.

Murakami: Yes. I think there will be a revolution in Japan within fifty years.

Don't other people find those dolls just damn creepy? They remind me too much of the girl in the French classic "Les Yeux sans visage" (Eyes Without a Face).

And, of course, we're all trying to avoid that Japanese cartoon fetish crap know as Hen*** (no offense to a particular head-fier!). Nothing more erotic than that seeing little girls tied up and mutilated! Oh, joy!
