Clearer. Maybe wider. A touch warmer. There's a nice sense of space in the middle, and the bass is more present.

700's are bass light as compared to the 701?

It's very close, but I think so. I used to think they (the AD700) were the bassier/warmer phones of the two, but now, either due to burn-in or I don't know what, I think the K701 have slightly more bass.

This is also why I didn't find the K701 as lacking in bass as a lot of folks here say it is; coming from a phone like the AD700, it doesn't sound lacking. I can imagine someone going from the HD650 or HD600 to the K701 might find them thin, though.

Neutral not straying to far in either direction. To warm and you loose the soundstage and detail. To cold and you are lacking body instead. Rather that then to warm since detail is pretty much the only benefit headphones have over speakers.

I prefer my headphones being neutral enough to discover original warmth or coldness of a record. And I don't listen to boring music when I want fun.

When I think of an ideal tone I'm thinking of smooth detailed highs, flat mids and deep tight bass. Warm is usually too bass-heavy to me, cold and sterile is too shrill, fun has uneven mids.

Neutral that EQs well is nice, but I prefer a bit of warmth to cold. Fun is also relative imo.

This is a public forum. Do I really have to write "IMO" every time I post?
