Hey all,

I have never posted here before because normally I can find answers to my questions in other threads hehehe But I can't seem to find a solution to my current problem. I will try to be as specific as possible (please, keep in mind I am no audio specialist by any means and I am actually a total newbie).

The problem: I want to buy an amp (primarily a portable, but I am considering to additionally get a not-necessarily-portable amp for my PC as well) that can drive well most of my headphones. Primarily, I need an amp for the Beyers DT770 250ohms. But I would like something that would also drive reasonably well my other headphones: mainly, the Senn HD598 and Ultrasone HFI-2400 (on the way), but I also have a pair of ATH MS50s, Grado SR80i, Senn HD515 (I have been meaning to sell these or give them away but I want to give them a last chance with an amp before I give up on them).

What I listen to: 90% metal. I listen to all metal subgenres but with a bias towards prog metal, tech death, metal with orchestras. The other 10% of the time I listen to a variety of things, except for rap, hip-hop, electronic, pop, country (basically pretty much anything that is played on a regular club).

Sources: My PC that I am sure has a bad stock card, my laptop (HP Pavillion something) with whatever sound card it came with, and iPod Classic.

My budget: I dont want to spend more than about $250 before taxes.

What I would like from the amp: something that has a built-in DAC or something and an equalizer. If it has multiple channels it is a plus, but not necessary.

I was trying to look at the Fiio E9K + Fiio E17 combo because it would give me a pc amp + dac + portable amp. Would this be suitable for what I want? Any better options within my budget?

Thanks in advance for any help! Cheers!

thanks dude :)

I read a bit on this one and it sounds great, but it is not portable. Any portables in mind? That one is def an option though. (if I cant find anything more tempting, I may give up on portables).

I'd like to have a few options to look at before deciding....

JDS C5. Apparently, the team used the DT 880/250 ohm version (I know it's not the 770) extensively during the development of the C5. So it may be a good match for the 770 as well.

They have phenomenal customer service to boot.

thanks for answering (and I am sorry it took me so long to thank you...).

I have been doing some reading on amps and now I am not sure I want to go for a portable anymore, I am more inclined to get a "transportable" amp/dac for my PC.

And the JDS C5 looks interesting. Do you know if it would also go well with the other HPs I mentioned?

Also, even though I did some reading I probably missed something. If someone could direct me to a relevant thread it'd be much appreciated.

thanks and cheers!
