I have jumped into hi fi audio head first. I bought headphones, headphone amp and the majority of a vinyl rig. I am still waiting on my headphone amp and turntable. The last object I need is an amp. Any recommendations? I will be using it with the Focal Chorus 706v bookshelf speakers. I am also using it with the cambridge audio 540p phono preamp.
Thank you.

I have no idea what you want to spend.

I like this Vincent amp and preamp , comes in black or silver and is hybrid, tube drivers.

Vincent Audio - SP-331 Hybrid Power Amplifier-Audio Advisor

Vincent Audio - SA-31 Hybrid Stereo Preamplifier-Audio Advisor

It has warmish highs will will be good for those speakers. Competes with more expensive units.

Heres a Vincent integrated if you want to go that route:
Vincent Audio - SV-226 Hybrid Stereo Integrated Amp MKII-Audio Advisor

AudioAdvisor is a great place to shop. They also have NAD, Marantz, Cambridge, and others if you prefer that.

Also Upscale Audio : Upscale Audio - PrimaLuna: All-tube, true high-end
Prima Luna is great stuff to match with those speakers for a vinyl setup.

I was hoping not to spend too much more than $200. I only need a power amplifier in the right range. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have been trying to get this together for 6 months and this is the last component I need. I was looking at the UPA -2 or Behringer A500. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

It has been about a year and I still have not quite found an amplifier. I think the problem was mostly my budget. I now can spend around $500 and was wondering if the NAD C 326BEE Stereo Integrated Amplifier or NAD C 316BEE would work well. Should I be looking for a power amplifier instead or is this sufficient? Thanks again in advance for any help!

Yamaha has announced a new selection of entry-level products. the A-S500 looks too good for the money - but have no idea on its performance. there's also a A-S200.

best bung for the buck buy used - good deal to be found at Audiogon

Thanks for the quick reply. I will look into those two. I searched audiogon for a bit but was a little overwhelmed. Now that my budget has gotten a little bigger it might be easier to find something worthwhile there.

The A-S500 does look like a really nice buy! My only question is since I already have a preamp, would I get more bang for my buck getting strictly a power amplifier? If not I will gladly jump into this item.

you don't mention what your source is. personally I have benefited the most by upgrading (or tweaking) the source. the A-S500 is a fine looking amp for sure, but I'm not sure if you're gonna benefit the most if your source is not up to scratch. if you're using a PC as a source consider upgrading the soundcard with the best you can afford; preferably one that can be connected directly to the amp so avoiding the usb port. if you're stuck with the usb maybe consider an external soundcard and/or a usb interface (good external DAC's are freaking expensive).

I've not tried many CD players, but I once bought an Emotiva ERC-1 - before I received the ERC-1 I was using a DacMagic connected via its usb cable to the PC. compared to the DacMagic the ERC-1 was way, way, WAY better. it was fun while it lasted; alas it developed a fault and had to return it to Emotiva's, and since it cost me a small fortune in shipping/duties I didn't bother with it anymore and got a refund. however, later I bought the Marantz's entry-level CD6003, which I also compared to the DacMagic; the CD6003 was absolute rubbish, and nothing like what the reviews made it to be, and returned to the shop the next day.

in brief... consider upgrading your source , if needed (not to be overlooked, imo). good luck
