Though the cracking / defective cord / cable / wire issue of Shure e500 and se530 have be discussed ad nauseum at this site. I'm curious to see if its possible to narrow down the production dates of the most problematic units.

So if you have the date code from a unit you sent in for warrantee service, ([size=medium]or of one you are about to send in[/size]) add a thread to this post and share your date code.

The date code:
A posting by Ronin74 states "...the date code is printed on the Y-connector, a 4-digit code, e.g. 2456 = manufactered on the 245th day of 2006."

Here is a link a to TimeandDate.com's day counter.
Calculator: Add to or subtract from a date
0=January 1
See below for codes and dates already sited.

I imagine the original box that a defective unit came in would also have a date or a date code on it somewhere, not really sure though. If you still have it, and you find a date, post it here.

I wonder if, those of you who have had to return your buds more than once have been exchanging units made on the same dates.

Polling at this site is limited to 10 units, so that is why the poll here is limited to the season and year the earphone was made.

Broken cords only please. Trying to find a pattern.

GraVY

Do you live outside the US?
Since the attitude to customer service by Shure resellers outside the USA is reportedly "different" it might better explain your getting a bad pair the second time around.

Did you send them to Shure HQ in Niles, Illinois? (If so -shocking)

In 2006 according to the date calculator on TimeandDate.com
262 days from January 1,2006 is actually September 20, 2006

Anyone else who needs to count days here the address-
Calculator: Add to or subtract from a date

Under: Enter date to add or subtract from
Enter: Month 1, Day 1, Year 2006 (or 2007 depending on the last digit on your date code.)

Then under
"Add or subtract, a number of years, months and/or days"
in the Days box
type in the number of days your date code shows

Other bad cable production dates reported on the Shure E500/E530 Cable Poll are:
1936 (Thursday, July 12, 2006)
2356 (Thursday, August 23, 2006)
2626 (Wednesday, September 19, 2006)
0117 (Friday, January 11, 2007)

Contribute date codes from broken cords only please.
Trying to find a pattern.

Don't worry too much. It is supposed to be a limited problem according to Shure guys who post here.

This isn't a scientific survey, but hopefully will indicate something real.

Its all about the honor system in terms of info given by members here. I tend to trust fellow audio nerds.

bit of a silly poll, my cable was made in nov 06 (3056) and to this day i havew had no problems apart from some stiffness, but the stiffness is cured simply by gently bending the cable the other way and then cleaning the cable, there you have it all normal again with a very slight curve still, no damage as of yet

I hope they last for you too.

Well..according to Shure guys who posted on the first Shure Poll,
this problem isn't supposed to be a huge problem.

You shouldn't worry too much. The numbers on this poll are anything but scientific. There is only the honor system here. How much do you trust your fellow audio nerd?

Still I hope to get a view of an issue Shure has not allowed to be revealed. Just a little more light on the subject.

That'd be Wednesday, November 1, 2006.

Silly poll? Guilty!

Have you had them for 16 months with no problems? Thats great!
Use anything special to clean them with?
