Is there a ortho Headphone with the Soundstage size of a Akg 712 cuz its huge, the 400s and i was even worse then a hd650.

I'd be also interested in the answer ... currently quite happy user of AKG Q701 with Ifi iCan micro and looking into HE400i, while soundstage is definitely not the only thing in sound equation, it's one of the parts I really like about Q701 ... is anything comparable in Planar world?

You can do the grill mod. Which opens up the sound a bit.

This isn't true. The 560's are quite open sounding, even more so with grill mod. The he-6 grill modded with the proper gear is huge.

If you want a more resolving equivalent to the AKG K700 series the next step up is a Sennheiser HD800 in my opinion.

I do own HE560, they sound wide but as wide as HD800s, their wide soundstage is too wide but not accurate as HE560. They reason is I use them to play FPS games time to time.

 Edition X has a soundstage that's almost as large as HD800.  It actually might be equally as large or larger perceptually if its upper midrange wasn't as recessed as HD800's.

560 is the same as 400i its a joke, of course people will justify the money burning . He 400s 400i 560 small soundstage really small a Dt1770 has a wider and its closed. He500 is better but still small, a bit bigger then lcd 2. But Akg 701\702 and Hd800 have the widest.

HE-4 is considered superior to HE-500 in terms of soundstage
Quite rare and under-rated headphone, also very hard to drive, although not as much as HE-6.

Umm.. I had the chance to listen to the HD800 and Edition X side by side for several days.  The Edition X is the only headhpone I've had the pleasure of listening to that didn't leave me wanting for more soundstage after switching to the HD800.

The 800 probably are the widest, but the 560's with the right gear are open sounding. Maybe not as wide, but ask yourself, do I want a phone cause it sounds more open like the akg. Or choose an ortho that resolves more detail, has better bass response, & images better. I'll pass on the soundstage. The 712 was decent, but after acquiring the 800, the 712 was pointless. Depends on what you want out of a headphone.
