Tool's Lateralus is probably my favorite album for good drumming.

Agreed, the SACD is one of my reference pieces.

You might want to look into the 'edit' feature.

YIKES!!! Bad day today?

...anyway...

I like Lateralus a lot, but when it comes to drumming, my favorite bands are Opeth (MAYH through Ghost Reveries) and Arcturus (Sham Mirrors and Sideshow Symphonies). Opeth for smooth but fast drumming and Arcturus for great energy and speed.

Anything with Buddy Rich. I love the drum battles he and Gene Krupa had back in the day. The drum gods of their time!

What SACD? Laterlus came out on SACD? Not that I know of, its an HDCD not SACD.

Being a drummer myself, its one of the major criteria on which I pick favourites. Here are a few drummers and albums definitely work checking out. I'll list them from various genres.

Metal
Gojira - The Link
Necrophagist - Epitaph
Behemoth - The Apostosy
Monstrosity - Spiritual Apocalypse
Lamb of God - As the Palaces Burn, Ashes of the wake is a tad simpler but still very precise
Origin - Antithesis
Opeth - Watershed, Ghost Reveries
Arcturus- Sideshow Symphonies

Hard Rock/Metal
Metallica - And Justice for All
Megadeth - Rust In Peace
Godsmack - Awake
Iced Earth - Horror Show

Progressive
Porcupine Tree - Deadwing, Fear of a Blank Planet, Arriving Somewhere (Live)
Dream Theater - Train of Thought, Awake
Tool - Aenima, Lateralus
Rush - Well hard to pick specific albums....its Neil Peart man!

Other
Dave Matthews Band - B4 these crowded streets, Crash
Dave Weckl Band - Synergy, Rhythm of Soul, Live and Plugged in
Niacin - Niacin
Coven Pitrelli Riley - CPR
Steve Smith - Vital Information
Billy Cobham - Spectrum, Total Eclipse

Kylesa - Static Tensions. I don't know if I would call the drumming itself exceptional, but the band has two drummers, I like the way the drums are mixed, and the music is very good if you like punk/metal stuff. One of my favorite albums this year.

@jilgiljongiljing: Billy Cobham is a great choice as well. I was blown away when I got to see him in a drum workshop once. The funniest thing though was when he took questions and someone stood up and said that he didn't really like Cobham's new work, but came because of his old work!
