Been looking around the net and notice there AKG K601 & K701 reference and K601 & K701 Studio. What is the difference between the studio and reference? Which is better the K601 or the K701?
Also how much bigger is the K601 and K602 vs the K142? And is it worth it getting the K142 vs the other two? Additionally if the extra is not worth it for the other two is the extra worth it or should one look at the K140 MKII or the cheaper Studio model.

I am trying to see all my headphone options before I decide what i should buy.

"Better" is a matter of opinion. The 601 and 701 sound different. Ask people who have listened to both at lenght what the differences are and decide for yourself which is better for you.

The big AKGs are way, way bigger than the K140 series. Cup diameter is about 2 inches bigger.

The "MkII" and "Studio" versions of the pro AKGs probably sound exactly the same. At least when they're wearing the same earpads.

So there is no difference? Because I see on the smaller models MKII and Studio and the larger reference and studio models. Is the K701 the same size the K242? Because those were kind of big.

What about K242 vs k142, which is recommended more? Any one know of any site that compares headphones sizes?

I'm pretty sure that all current versions of the 14x and 24x use the same driver and the same damping schemes.

But i'd have to look at the service docs for part numbers to be certain.

I think the K701 and it's relatives (all the way down to the K300) are a little bit bigger than the K240 and it's relatives. I own examples of both but don't have either in front of me right now.

You would want to run an AKG with an amp - of all the brands, AKG tends to be the most difficult to drive.

If you don't want to spend money on an amp, look at headphones from Grado and Audio-Technica.

5kg? how would you hold up your head?

The K14x and K24x (and K27x) are made of different materials, with a different design, and are probably just plain heavier.

The AKG service docs include exploded diagrams that may state the size, but, well, generally people don't care about exact measurements.

I think the K240 is something close to 100mm and the K701 closer to 110mm. K141 more like 80mm.

You need to calculate power loss between the output impedance of your amp and the headphones and you need to also take a look at the headphones sensitivity to figure out whats easy to drive and whats not, not solely the impedance.
