Hello,

I'm a new member here at Head-Fi and since I couldn't get a response good-enough from another headphone relied forum I decided to try my luck here.
So I've been thinking of buying a good pair of headphones for a long time now and an amp to go with them. I know something (not much) about headphones but literally nothing about amps, and that's why I'm in need of help.

So this is the combo I've been thinking about:

AKG Q701 http://eu.akg.com/akg-product-detail_eu/q701blk.html

+

JDS LABS O2/ODAC http://www.jdslabs.com/products/48/o2-odac-combo/

This will cost me about 500 dollars which is okay price. Is this a good combo or are there possibilities to buy a cheaper amp or cans?

In the U.S. you could currently get that combo for about $50 less.  In any case it is a good value.

Based on U.S. pricing, the only thing I know that might be competitive is to consider the entry level amps and dac from Schiit instead of the O2 amp/dac.

Matrix M-stage (Usb) and the Aune T1 are nice alternatives. You can find them cheaper, depending where you live.
