AKG or Senn? K601 or HD580?

I've not heard any of the above mentioned Sennheisers and I'll probably be rather biased towards the K601 (which will probably cancel out goorackerelite's biasness towards the Senns, no offense intended

).

The K601 is really comfortable and can be worn for hours without getting any pain around the ears.

Some impressions from a site which I always find very useful (headphonereviews.org)

K601

HD580

HD600

Another thing to keep in mind is amping. Sennheiser HD 580/600/650s are one of the most demanding headphones, so if you're using a low-end amp, K601 can have an advantage.

The K601's are indeed more power hungry than the Sennheisers. Both shine with better sources, perhaps the Senns a little more.

I'd say go with the 501's actually. They destroy my 580's, which I got rid off.

I like them much, much more than the 601, and would consider moving up to the 601, a downgrade.

Really? I have honestly heard the opposites of both of those statements, weird, I guess its all preference or something, anyone else want to shed some light on this?

Same here, couldn't deal with the bloated bass of the 580's any longer. MUCH prefer the K501's in every area (especially the soundstage), but both cans are difficult to drive. Havn't tried the K601's, the K501's are good enough for me.

I must disagree about the K501s, I thought they were too airy and completely without body. I haven't heard the K601s, but the HD580s sounded pretty good when I heard them.

stevo, I just looked at the stevo.org website. Face it, you're a Beyer guy for days. Maybe you could get away with vintage AKG like a K280, but nothing new and no Senn that has ever been made. Actually, I don't know why I'm writing this, you already know it.
