AKG K812(?) Professional Headphones - coming soon
Sep 25, 2013 at 6:15 PM Post #136 of 745
  Looks like a K601/K612 with K550 pads.

or like the ugly love child of a K701 and a Superlux EVO

plastic, mesh and pleather... yikes.

I don't like the "by HARMAN" thingy either...
...they should have added "by HARMAN, for the profit of the SHAREHOLDERS only"...

Wow, Nomax.

So you've heard these headphones then.

Can you please tell me not about the sound quality and instead focus on the build, comfort, driveability.....Does it have detachable cables, is it heavy, fully open backed, leather padded, difficult to drive.

And well about the sound (go on then!) does it have/is it
- bigger soundstage than the HD800?
- bigger bass than the HD800?
- Brighter than the HD800?

Are you close enough in London to visit AKG's official K812 release?

I hope it's their flagship and it only costs $600 MSRP!!

LOL maybe it's a totally redesigned Q701 variation using the same driver but with the bass port opened

Who cares about plastic? You are going to use your headphones like a hammer or something? Hd800 are also made out of plastic and so what?

It's not the plastic that bothers me, but that they don't seem to do anything new in terms of design. Like others have commented, it looks like the classic K601/701 housing shape with a few minor changes (metal ring + grill?). Sure they might put a fancy driver in there, but does that warrant 1300 euros? You do realize that is more than all other dynamic-driver flagships except the edition 10?

If it does come out at 1300 euros, that is.

A lot of assumptions considering we haven't even seen more than 1/8th of the headphone at a time.  To me it looks like the outer grill (with the metal ring around it) looks a ton bigger than the one on the 701s.

There's actually a pretty large picture on one of the pdf files that was posted here.

Ahh I missed that.  After seeing it I agree with you a lot more, I just got 50% less excited. Even if it is a different driver I can't imagine it sounding as good as HD800s or even lcd 2s.  Who knows maybe they're going for a different sound signature?

This has certainly piqued my interest.  I had to sell my HD800 awhile back because I needed the money, but I still regard them as my favorite headphone I've owned.  As much as I would love to see AKG produce something on the level of the HD800, I think I'll have to hear it to believe it.
