AKG K812 Pro

Better in What?

As in better to your liking due its signature? Yes. Everything else no and there's nobody able to refute that. Only AKG themselves by releasing another product..

Lower distortion and better driver control result in more detail and separation. Driver control especially prevents bass bleed and bloat if done right.

Nothing wrong in preferences but this is denial. Embrace the Spongebob for what it is.

The big joke here is the price though. Should be slightly above the T1 which can be gotten for 650€ from time to time.

Match definitely my own opinion.

I personaly couldn't listen much classical with the K812. Strings made me cringe a bit.

@jk47 - was listening to jazz when i compared them. don't want to exaggerate the differences btw the k812 and hd800. i heard the hd800 as cleaner, more defined. the k812 had a bit more bass presence but apart from that the differences weren't huge. just felt that the k812 didn't offer any noticeable improvement over the hd800 with the exception of some moar bass. i didn't think that it was a pos, just a disappointment is all.

What about the soundstage difference?

IMO, soudstage is a strong point of the K812. somewhat in between the T1 and the HD800.  as distant as the HD800 but less diffuse with a very good sense of palpability/tangibleness

Sonic...  No matter what you say here there is a group that will insist the HD800 sounds better than the K812 because of the "measurements".   Its a personal sound preference thing to me.    I was actually the most disappointed in the HD800 because of the hype it received and I didn't care for it.   Personally I would take K812 and the LCD-X I once owned over the 800 hands down.

not part of that group but the thd measurements did confirm what i heard. was seriously interested in getting the k812 until i auditioned it alongside the hd800. i don't own either so don't have a dog in this fight but i know which one i rate more highly - just sayin.

It is a subject. The K812 has more distortion than mid-fi headphones and the AKG K812 is a $1500 flagship headphone.

I'll wait till AKG release an MK2 version.

Did somebody say something?

if the sound is comparable for you listening to your music, then i would think you'd prefer the k812 because you get equally good sound but it's much more versatile because it's so easy to drive.

no not really - just trying to say that the differences between them aren't stark but they're significant enough for me to prefer the hd800 to the k812. but like i said before, i can understand how other folks would find the k812 more to their liking.

The K812 does have that holographic vocals presentation which IMO makes it very captivating to listen to. But, listening to treble-happy songs the treble harshness of the K812 becomes too much to enjoy the holographic vocals presentation.

I didn't find that the case every time I listened to the K812, it never came across as harsh to me. But I have only heard the K812 on tubes.

What is properly driven when talking about the 812s?  I'm guessing any quality amp will do here.

I said "at least if they are properly driven" because I wanted to allow for the possibility that (for all I know) there might be some set-ups in which you would get bass bleed or bloat with the K812. I'll add, however, that I've never experienced those things with any amp I've paired my K812 with. so I don't think it's really an issue with these cans. I accept that treble harshness may be a legitimate criticism of the k812, but bass bloat is not.
