Hi guys,
I just bought the e-mu 0404 as a source for my akg k701s at music123 for 170 dollars using the 15% off coupon and am currently looking for an amp to replace my mini^3 for my akg k701s. I'm looking for something rather inexpensive as I just bought the 0404s, something hopefully in the 150-300 dollar range. The best bang for buck in that range that is a good pairing with the k701s and the emu 0404s would be awesome and any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks guys.

I've heard the Darkvoice 336i sounds good with the K701s. Mine sure sounds good with my AKGs.

There's always the Gilmore Lite as well, which I'd like to try.

see if you can find a used Corda Aria (or Cantata if you can stretch it). Recent Meier Audio amps seem to match K701 very well.

Well, I got my Shanling PH100 today and my K701s have never sounded so good. They now have BASS!!!!

Nice! I'm glad you like them. I heard things about the soundstage shrinking. How's it sound to you? Thanks for the advice everyone and I'm looking forward to the rest of the discussion.

I'm not sure if you've already done it, but have you searched much about this subject? I'd estimate there's one post asking for K701 amp recommendations every two or three days, so there's lots to see.

Very true. There's a bunch of them after a search. Thanks for the advice and sorry for the trouble. I'm still curious about the shanling though.

I am now as well, actually. Shipping from Hong Kong is a bitch though (when buying from eBay).

X2 on the Darkvoice. I've also heard that the Darkvoice 332 works well with them.

Well, playing the Chesky Ultimate Demonstration Disc the soundstage sounds not too different from how I remembered it with my Stax O2 system. To be honest, to my ears, any small diminishment of the soundstage is more than compensated for by the improvements in the bass region, which now complements the crystal clear mid and upper regions very well indeed.
