I've auditioned K550 recently and I liked them much except one detail. The midrange sounds to me a little bit too thin. So I'd like to ask if you know any other headphones that sounds like k550 but with thicker mids and same clarity and soundstage? Price: around $300, source: dx50, music: slow paced mainly, vocals, some jazz, elctronic sometimes.

Thx for reply. I'd prefer to use dx50 without an amp, and this will be probably not enough for hd600, does anyone tried them straight out of players?

They're surprisingly easy to drive - they sound fine (but not their best, obviously) out of my iPhone/iPad and even a Sansa Clip

They certainly improve with amping, but I expect the DX50 could do a decent job. The limitation will likely be when listening to music with a wide dynamic range (e.g. classical) as the internal amp might clip.

Thx for recommendation, I couldn't find them for audition. I've read few reviews, they claim that they are similar to k550. I would give them a shot, but a900x costs nearly twice as much as k550 in my country. I see it's quite hard to find full sized headphones meeting my expectations, maybe there are some universal iems which can fit the bill?

AKG K545 are supposed to have a bit warmer tilt in frequency response. Might give you that bit extra you are looking for: http://www.head-fi.org/t/688329/akg-k545-review-k550-s-little-brother-isn-t-so-little

Also, the SoundMagic HP100 is often described as a good alternative to the AKG K550: http://noblehifi.blogspot.com/2012/10/soundmagic-hp100-review.html

Thanks guys.
Yes, I'm looking for closed cans. I've listened to hp100 today, they are very nice. They are superior in some aspects over ath m50 I own. However I liked more presentation in akg. I think I'll try to find k545 for an audition.
