I stupidly forgot to note what the ground terminal is and what signal is before I desoldered the original cable.  I left the original red and white cables attached to the driver.  Can some one tell me which one is signal and which one is ground?  Or, does it even matter?

Thanks,
Mat

It does not matter, as long as both left and right are the same.

Download a "speaker (WRONG! EDITED! polarity) Phase test track" and listen to it to verify that everything is OK in the end. The test tracks usually include instructions of what to listen for.

Incidentally, AKG is known for wiring their headphones with flipped polarity to reduce the odds of creating an acoustic feedback loop between a vocalist & their microphone. How thoughtful of them!

On the one hand you might wind up doing it the way they (AKG) thinks is right, on the other hand you do it the way everyone else does it. Three is no demonstrable audible difference.
