I was forced to go back to the AKG K12P because the IEMs broke and I found myself really enjoying the sound of these. Am I the only one that finds the K12P really good for the price? (I don't really recall how much they were as it was plenty of time ago, they're so old that the AKG logo is already gone)

No, you're certainly not alone.

 
Even though I'm more of a Sennheiser guy, especially when it comes to earbuds, I'd be lying to myself if I didn't say that my AKG K312P (the successor to the K12P) wasn't more detailed and resolved than the Sennheiser MX500 (and MX360).  During the battle between the K12/14P and the MX400/500, each Head-Fier took his/her side, but I have to say some many years later that, at least to my ears, the AKGs are more technically proficient.
